Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    Do you think we need compititions to train towards or is personal saftey enough .I find that with compitions you have the same unknowing edge that you dont get in club sparring .And thats something you need to be prepared for.

    My thoughts exactly..
    In your club you spar the same people every week so you know them, it starts to lose realism.. but in competitions you're sparring different people from all over the world.. it's more exciting of course because you don't know your opponents strengths or weaknesses..

    It all depends on how you define personal safety,
    sure competition will prepare you for having to deal with a cronfrontational situation, it will improve reflexes, speed etc
    but depending on what form of competition you train for would vary the personal safety benefits, there is big difference between training for Vale Tudo style fighting and semi contact style, but I would agree that as a rule it always good to test yourself against an unknown quantity whatever your code.
    I believe Geoff Thompsons Animal Days are very good for the personal safety end of things
