What is the most money you've ever held in your hand?

Just curious... the conversation came up between myself and a few friends recently, - don't recall why -... anyway... the question was "what is the most money you've ever held in your hand(s)?" (and yes, cheques count)

Most said a couple of grand. One said a bank draft to the value of a house - don't rightly remember. I "won" though, as for me, the most I've ever held in my hands was IR£500,000 - all in bundles of £20 notes. It wasn't mine, - I was working in a security company at the time. The 500 grand was for sorting - I ran it through a machine to check whether it was fit for use in an ATM. Usually, at least 60% of it wasn't...

    So... who's next?

I used to work for a charity and I counted donations all day long, the money was exchanged for 50 pound notes,

over xmas I counted 24 grand into a large bundle. the temptation was unbelievable but I managed not to succumb and left after the week with a sh*tty 224 quid pay packet.

    honesty

Oh I understand the temptation... the pay was utterly dire in the security company I worked for (less than £160 per week as I recall), and it wouldn't have been unusual for anything between 2 and 5 million pounds in cash to pass through my hands throughout the course of all the seperate jobs I'd go through in a week.

    Interesting topic.

An acquaintances lotto winnings cheque. It was over 3 1/4 million euro, she was the only winner that week.

Consequently, I saw none of the winnings, but there was free champagne on the night. :)

Wow, my mum sold our car for a few grand and she got it in her hands. She and I got the money and threw it into the air and it rained down upon us... like god.

    Ahh money rain.

Held an order in my hands for €120,000 which i had quoted. I had quoted the wrong price. €10,000 the wrong side.

Needless to say I wasn't employee of the month. Biggest mistake I've made in my life by about €9,960.

jeez, Bard you set the barrier high there.

I think the most cash I ever had was IR£10,000 in cash - all grubby used nores, unfortunately none of it was mine, and I was nervous as hell carrying it around town

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,754 ✭✭✭Big Chief

ive seen 12,000 sterling before in front of me, but never actually held it or anything.

Most ive had in my actual pocket at one time was €1500, which was the deposit for my old house

seems little in comparison now after looking at the above ^ :)

Of my own money, a few weeks ago about 2,000 for a new pc and a little bit more for the bank.

But the most I would even have held at the once was about 5,000+ at work.

Some day I might see more in my hands, that is if I ever get around to doing the lotto more then three times a year.

The most I've held in one go was about €3000 but it was, at least all mine! :D

I walked around town with a grand in my pocket on my way to get clothes.

TBH it shouldn't count if it's not your own money, but during the Euro changeover I went around sorting out floats in some Net House stores with serious amounts of cash (party in coins).

Most money I've had for myself is €1200 in a cheque.

I once had 8,000 takings in my pocket, my mother have to me to mind for the night. Forgot about it and wandered down to another pub for a pint. About half way through it I remembered and got wofull parionid that everyone knew I had it.

LOL TomTom. I get worried even carrying €1000 down to the bank. Just in case someone knows when im bringing it in. Thats why we deal in bank transfers only now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,446 ✭✭✭✭amp

One of the punters I was dropping some PC's off to paid in cash. 10,000 in cash. I'm so glad that doesn't happen in my new work.
I never see the cash, so I don't get worried about getting robbed or flying off to Mexico or something.

Hrm... I carried a few grand in cash in a bucket into an AIB a few weeks ago, school-related fundraising thing...

Had never lodged so much money before, mostly notes but a few hundred euro in coins too...

The cashier counted it... sorted the coins into bags etc... had almost finished when she stopped suddenly and scowled at me... "This bag.... This bag is one cent short..." She made me pay up too...
