I think he's a really good player too. He also has scored more then beckham on free kicks.

deadball situations he's good, maybe they should try him out on the wing it may just be a case of him needing a new position

Ian Harte is the only defender Beckham has ever beaten in a one on one.

Sad fact that really it is.

He's alright. I'd be interested to see how O'Shea would do in midfield if Harte (or Finnan/Reid) was played at LB. Ireland need a central midfielder badly.

Give Finnan a chance at left back and O'Shea in the centre. I think that would be a good defence. Healy may be the answer for centre midfield although Holland was good last night.

With all due respect, Finnan did sweet F.A. when he replaced Harte last night.

Harte had his best game in a green shirt for a long time.

As regards the "honeymonster", I'm speechless. Carew must have been on downers.

if your amazed by harte, how do you feel over gary breen. A poor club player but he always manages to get by for ireland and some times exceles himself like his goal against Saudi Arabia.

Anybody want to set up a fan club wit me..........

with all due respect finnan has been injured on and off for the entire season

there is no possible explanation as to why Harte deserves that left back position once Finnan is fully fit

we need someone to take that centre midfield role by the scruff of the neck badly

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,818 ✭✭✭Bateman

Carew is crap. Just because he plays for Valencia, doesn't mean he's a world beater. The fact that Harte, Breen, and Dunne all kept him quiet last night says little about all 4. He might have a name for himself as far as Nayim is concerned, but the regard people hold him in is pathetic. When I shouted last night that he should be embarassed to be beaten by Harte, people around me questioned whether I was an Arsenal or Leeds fan.:(  :o :ninja:

I honestly think that Healy should be in there ahead of Holland, Kinsella or Kilbane. He gets stuck in and has the same attributes as one recently former Ireland midfielder and captain.

For Healy - it's all about next season. What club will he play for - will he be on the First team. Now is the time for this to happen for him.

    Poppycock to all of that,

Delap was one of the most consistant midfielders in any top half premiership team this season.

If he gets back to form, you have your man.

    How bout this team then...

    Given

    Duff

    Keane

You could take out Holland and put in Reid either.

Sunderlands Sean Thornton would be a good addition and should be given a chance.

Beat Young player of the year off the field last week.

Harte was diabolical as usual. Carew walked past him at one stage, lucky for great Dunne and Breen defending. In fairness Kilbane gave him excellent cover + Carew was out of position.

    My team

    Given
    Carr Breen A O'Brien O'Shea

    Reid Kinsella Thornton Duff

    Keane Morrisson

If Colin Healy cannot make Celtic team with Negative Neil Lennon or ageing Paul Lambert he can forget about making an Ireland team.

I think bar his excessive tackling he's a wildly overrated player,
    just my opinion

This is a good team, although, I'd swap O'Brien for Kelly, and Holland for Carsley.

What I can't figure out is why Ireland best proforming Centre half in the Premiership isn't starting for the national team.
One of the most consistant defenders in the League, rearly makes a mistake, good in the air, quick feet, can read the game well, Andy O'Brien.
I am no way a Newcastle fan, but he is the second most played irish player besides O'Shea this season for any team in the premiership.
He never has a bad game.

Also Dunne is a good player, the problem with Blackburn is that neither of the defenders there had much pace so the both look crap, but Dunne can read the game like it's writen on his hand, and he isn'taffraid to tell somone what to do.

Everyone keeps saying Cunningham, but in fairness he is an avrage player at best, hasnt doen great this season and is ver slow.

Also you lot seem to have a Kinsella fetish, the lad is ****e.
If you can't get onto the Villa team you don't deserve to play for Ireland, Kilbane would be far better in centre, he is a lot faster, he has been playing out of his skin for sunderlandf in that posistion, I mean, who saw the Sunderland Man U game where he bassically controlled the pace of the game all night, he was everywhere.

the best ireland team you could have is this

    Given
    Carr
    O'Brien----O'Shea
    Finnen(Or Gary Kelly)
    Reid
    Holland----Kilbane
    Duff
    Keane
    Morrison

the idea is that Finnen or Kelly could easily attack up and down the left wing which lets Duff move in to the centre when more attacking power is needed, much like untied play giggs at the moment, or how Inter have played recobba for the last two years.
Wel all know Carr can go forward and it only makes sence that the two best centre backs play together.

Reid and is a great player, holland is our best holding midfeilder and Kilbane works his flupping ares off for the whole game

the other players are just natural selection, although judging by the norway game, his current form, and his confidence Connolly
may be a better choice than Morrison, I mean Keane sat 4 yards away from the last defender stratching his bollox fr the whole game, Connolly tracked back and put in challenges, which for a striker he did well in, about 4 out of 10 interceptions payed off for him and he made a lot of space for himself, he may lack strenght height and speed, but he knows where he has to be and thats what reallt counts.

I think thats very harsh. I recall keane coming deep to pick up the ball etc. Connolly didnt appear to be as big a muppet as i used to think he was, only time will tell what he really is. He did ok for me vs Norway.
