I bought a d-link dsl300G+ modem ethernet one. I'm plugging it in to my ethernet port on PC and I'm getting a LAN connection popping up of 100Mbps. I got my eircom dsl password a few days ago but how do I know if I'm connected yey. I plug in the RJ11 cable and nothing happens.
    Can anyone help me please.
Also the DLink modem has no drivers and its not appearing in Device manager(although the ethernet NIC is). No error messages. can you help

    This shouldn't be here

Here what your screen should be like

    dsl300g-btaccconfig.JPG

Bang your password in and your user name, make sure your phonelines is connected to a router and into a splitter on the wall, make sure your computer is connected to the router via cat5 cable, set your computer to auto detect ip address.

If you have the service once you put in your user naem and pass and select the right protocol press connect, if it works you will be connected right there and it will say so on the router screen posted above.

Ps you guys are going to start pissing of dustaz if you dont start posting on the right forum.

    Pss nice choice in router

If he is using eircom as he said he will need to change the connection type to PPPoE and the encapsulation to LLC based

Sorry Boston, but unless I'm going friggin blind or something I can't see where he was told to change or said he knew to change the settings I mentioned, If I'm missing something I apologize but I always read before I post a reply;) I know you said to select the right protocol but my modem for one has a bunch of protocols which can be selected and this chap obviously has no experience with this sort of thing, I'm just trying to help.

I said protocol because you don't know if its pppoa or pppoe, since rumors are about that the new service is pppoa, though all previous other eirco mservices are pppoe

Colin terms will fly about the place, usually what these places call a router is really what you have with a built in switch. then theres another thing that they call a router which you have to connect a "modem" up to in order to get a conenction. Basically at an advanced level we dont call your piece of hardware a modem, thats a narrowband concept we call it a router then call the likes of the d-link 500(which apparently doesn't exist) a router with a switch.

Noe of the above helps you so ignor it if you like, in fact ignor it anyway, whats called waht can be a long a boring conversation that i've had will allot of people. we will call it a "medem" for the shake of this thread.

Right make sure you modem is on, connected and using the coorect cables cat 5(not cross over cable, which you maybe usign if you where connecting pc's directly before) Read you booklet, usually the default router..sorry modem address is 198.168.0.1 as shown in the picture.

Now instead of me sitting here guiding your though this, you should check out delinks site
this link brings you to a site with loads of information such as diagrams and spec

this link is to manuals and firm ware. THis piece of hardware is external and as such does not have any drivers on your pc

and this link has a guide to configuring your settings once you access the modem.

Your problem sounds like its with the modem not with eircom.

Btw this is not a standard piece of kit, perhaps whomever told yo uabout it might help you out as well

302 is the same piece of kit with a firmware update
and yes it is a problem with your computer if you haven't as of yet even configured the router
