WI-FI question.

hello,

im just trying to find out something. These "WI-FI Hotspots" that are availible at hotels and the airport, are they just the same wireless network that some people have in thier houses. I.E a DSL conection conected to a PC network with standard 802.11a/b wireless routers like the D-link DI604 overlaped to give wider coverage, that people just come and conect up their laptop to.

if so what is this wireless broadband eircom have on there site here...

Technically, it's the same equipment.. They'd either have the wireless router connected to a LAN and into an internet router directly or just a simple DSL connection off a PC. A wireless router will typically support 253 users.

My own wireless signal (From a Netgear DG824M) can be recieved by my neighbours! Of course, it would be very bold (ahem, cough, cough) to share it with them!
