In Mac OS X, users can choose to use cultural settings appropriate for Ireland. These are date and time formats, currency, and so on.

In the System Preferences menu, these are identified by the following text:

    Ireland (English)
    Ireland (Gaelic)

Is this appropriate? Would either of the following be more appropriate? Please state your preference and state why.

    Ireland (Irish)
    Ireland (Irish Gaelic)

Which is the best descriptor to go with "Ireland (English)" in Apple's System Prefs? 2 votes

In a situation where Gaelic was not given any context it probably wouldn't be appropriate. But let's be honest, when the option is Gaelic as spoken in Ireland, it's obviously Irish Gaelic.
