Anyone do any home recording with guitar and PC?

I use Cubase VST 32 on a 2.4Ghz PC with a Les Paul Studio through a Marshal G-16RCD. It has a an emulated line out which I connect to my PC using a Sonic Fury (Santa Cruz) on an analogue in jack.

Now I can get everything tow ork and all, its just I don't know a whole lot about music recording a nd producing. As such I find it difficult to get levels right and stuff.

Anyone doing anything similar that might have some advice to impart?

    Cheers,

    LD

    Use wavelab.
    It works.

I dont think you can record straight from the guitar with Cubase.

I have Sound Forge, but I have recording over the the midi drum tracks and baselines in Cubase.

VST 32 will allow you to do this. However, I am just mesmerised by the mix opitions and don't really know where to start improving the beyond the noise gate.

I use cakewalk for recording bass guitar. Have no problems

The main thing is to watch the levels within the conolse part of calkwalk. Make sure they don't peak.

Good rule of thumb I always use - only record when you are happy with the sound!

I seldomly use the plugins in cakewalk - they sound a bit cheap - but there are some nice ones out there if you can spare the time to search for them rather than create music!

True. The sound must be good in the first place coz otherwise you can mess with it as much as you want but you'll never be happy in the end.

On the other hand I learned that if it sounds great by its own it doesn't mean it will work well in the mix and most likely it won't.

    Very true too!!!

I guess its the whole fun of playing around and trying to be as good at producing as you are at playin!
