What come back do I have with EIRCON?

Eircon have told me there is nothing they can do to give me Eircon broadband. Eircon own the line and the line is F*CKED. I live in a reasonably new house (1996) and in the area I live in 2 of my neighbours have DSL (ESAT).

I am WELL within the range of the mervue exchange in galway.

I'm not going to go with Eircon, its just that I have to deal with them to get my line. I want Via to be my provider (cause of lack of cap).

Is there any comeback that I can use? Can they do this to me.

The line test always fails! FFS.

[EDIT: I was just on a chat program with i-stream, he has told me to ring 1901 and he also said "Eircom are obliged to fix any faults that may exist on your line *******"
    Also
"If a fault is keeping you from upgrading the line it should be fixed"]

tell them lies - it worked for me. My line failed repeatedly right until the time that i rang and said that "the line passed a few months back and I want to sign up now".

I've been on the phone about 5 times to them, I'm sure they have some sort of call logging! Besides I'm not a confident liar :)

Did u get bb and if so whats the quality like?

What they tell me is that they by the line failing that means they cannot guarantee the min 256K on a 512K line! FFS. I want a new line that works for FREE!

I am awaiting the €ircon self install pack - got my passwords etc. - should have it in the next day or so. :D
They wouldn't even tell me what a line failure meant or why it happened - they just referred me to repairs who referred me to DSL sales...

Call logging? Eircom? That would require some semblance of organisation on their part :D
They've never logged any call i've made to them recently about problems I had with them changing the CPS on my line without my permission.

As for lying, it's not face to face, anyone can lie over the phone, it's not like eircom can see you blush :)

Well I wouldn't count on them enabling your line when they say they will, I was told that it would be done today, only to find out it won't be done until the 11th or 12th of May, so I cancelled and will go with EsatBT or Netsource

CutterIE, all the lines are owned by eircom, netsource won't work unless the eircom test works

    Esat won't work either (probably)

I'm just going to get the eircom engineer to fix the line (as everyone rents a line from them) and then go with netsource!

I basically lied to get mine too. They kept on telling me i couldnt get it, i told somebody that somebody in eircom said i could get it. Hey presto I got it :)

    Chief.

    Some interesting schtuff here

    ADSL Prequalification

    16. What is ADSL prequalification?

ADSL Prequalification is an industry standard process used by ADSL providers to testcustomer's telephone and indicate whether those lines will be capable of supporting ADSLservices.

    17. How does ADSL prequalification work?

Customer telephone lines are tested on a regular basis based on criteria including:- The distance of the customer's premises from the telephone exchange. The bandwidth available degrades with the distance travelled.*- The `condition' of the telephone line*The result of these tests are combined to provided indication of the lines' capability to carry ADSL services. This indicator is represented by either a `PASS' or a FAIL' flag, where a`PASS' flag indicates that a line will be capable of getting ADSL, and a `FAIL' flag indicates that a line will not be capable of getting ADSL. The prequalification indicator is then loaded into an industry standard prequalification database which is used by DSL operator's to checkthe status of customers lines as required.

    18. How often is the ADSL prequalification database refreshed?

The prequalification database will be refreshed on a monthly rolling basis.

    19. How reliable are the ADSL prequalification results?

The prequalificationification test is a predictive tool and is not an absolute guarantee that theline tested will support ADSL service. Service cannot be proven until the installation on sitehas been completed. Prequalification has nevertheless proven to give a reliable and accurateindication that lines passing can support service.

    20. Can we find out why a line failed to prequalification?

No. The prequalification database is loaded with `PASS' and `FAIL' flags only. It does not give the reason why a line has failed

    eth0_

Eircom uses (basically) the same system as vodafone as they owned it for a while when it was eircell and they log everything!

I just found out from a friend of mine that has been working there for years!
