From a google search using "jfk+taxi", the first result:

    Tipping is optional

There is a 50 cent surcharge for trips commencing between 8PM and 6AM (except to Manhattan)

One fare pays for all passengers to one destination

Four passengers is the limit for New York City cabs.

Meter must read $2.00 at the start of the trip (except to Manhattan)

    Take Your Receipt

SAMPLE FARES FROM JFK INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT:
Tolls are in addition to metered fares and are not shown.
To Manhattan (Flat Fare)* $35 + Tolls

The fare from JFK to Manhatten is fixed. When your getting into the taxi there's usually someone at the rank that gives out info on all the fares. The fare from Manhatten back to JFK is on the meter and usually costs $40 + tip. You can also get one of those Lincoln town cars for $50 - $60.

If you are used to the CIE/Dublin Bus mess, taking the A train isn't really as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Sure it is a little slow with many stops but isn't much more than a Dublin-Greystones DART journey. You'll also have saved yourself $40.

yeah, the train is grand but not if you have loads and loads of bags as i had the last few times. it can be a nightmare. but if you travel light and have plenty of time then take the subway.
