Carrying on from my 'O'Driscoll shouldn't be captain' rant, what do people think of have the Munster and Irish No.9 Peter Stringer as Irish Captain.
He's a great player, he's vocal, a good connection between forwards and backs and he's not afraid to give Martin Johnson a few clips around the ear.
    He's my choice for captain.

Peter Stringer should be Irelands' next Captain 13 votes

Stringer, don't think so, I'd go for O gara before stringer, Woody will be back (hopefully) before the world cup so....

Yes he hit Johnson a couple of slaps, but he got away with it ;)
Though I take your point on discipline. You shouldn't go around slapping people - you just give away penalties or yellow cards. Remember the days when you could have a good bit of argy-bargy in a game?

IMO the captain should always be a forward as they tend to be of the more motivational type.

Players would probably take more notice of a six foot tank than a five foot eight wisp barking out the orders.

Nothing against Stringer as he is an excellent player and is well able to take and give out the big hits.

I agree . . . . . the captain needs to be in the pack . . Foley is the most obvious choice !

Hopefully Wood will be back in time for the world cup so he'l take it back off O Driscoll. That's providing he get's his place back off the (other than last Sunday's performance) in form Shane Byrne.

    Stringer is the MAN!!!

i dont think stringer is the right man for captain. I dont think he could stamp his authority on a game without using violence or intimidation.
the captain needs to be a strong forward like jim williams is for munster. you saw on saturday how he stepped in and kept his team under control.

Personnaly i out of the current pack(excluding wood) i would go for corrigan. he has the experience with leinster and is a steady head and is respected by the rest of the pack.

I think Corrigan should be replaced by Hogan full time, not just because I'm a munster fan .. blah blah blah but his way more mobile and when ball in hand makes progress.

Saw today that Woody has been given the boot by harliquinns for next season, IRFU contract anyone?

no i dont think so, corrigan is much stronger at lose head than horgan.
the irish scrum was good during the autum internationals and against scotland but was a shambles against england and wales when horan played....but then again im a leinster fan.

Id probably think he'd make a good captain, hes quite vocal. but also hes very game smart, he knows what tactics need to be taken in a bad situation. Also he is an ideal position to tell both backs and forwards what to do etc.

If Victor Costelloe could play for the full 80 minutes he would make a brilliant captain.
He has a cool head, is very motivational and never gets in trouble.
An excellent choice in my opinion.

I haven't been around in a while but did anyone see the AIB senior cup final. What was Sexton thinking when he kicked to touch at the end of it. They should have run it off Mc Govern for a sure try.

At least Marys brought home one trophy though in the form of the provincials cup. What happened in the final? Michaels just sat there and watched their hopes go away on the breeze!
