Mac vs UTVip mail prob

    Anyone using UTVip?

I do and when I use it to send mail from Eircom.net or o2.ie smtp it fails - asking me for my password which it never accepts.

I thought that the Eircom may not be allowing me to access from a non Eircom dialup number as it works when I use Eircom 1892 dialup but I can't see why o2 would be the same. The only thing I can think of is a setting in the firewall but I wouldn't know what to look for.

    Anyone any ideas?
    Mac OS 10.2.1
    Mail vs 1.2

I should add that receiving mail is no problem at all from either pop.

I will get on to UTV about it soon but as with all tech support I ever use - it will be ages before anything happens I'm sure.

Ok, so I've no idea about anything techical. But I've had the same problem as yourself with mac and UTVip (and dna before them)

In account settings for your eircom/o2 email accounts, leave the incoming mail server as the Utv one (for me its mail.dna.ie) but change the outgoing one to your old outgoing mailserver from eircom/O2

It has worked for me in the past, even if I have no idea why.

Um no, if you're dialled up with UTV, you leave the incoming server as it is, it's the outgoing one that you change to ie-smtp.utvinternet.com.

theking, I tried that and it didn't work :(

etho_ I love you! Thanks hon, it worked perfectly :)
They really should put that in their bumfyjargon. I'll send 'em a mail now that I can.

Incidentally are you affiliated with UTV/Stentor?

Wish I could have repaid this by fixing your western union. Thanks again though icon14.gif
