Has anyone on boards ever entered into relationship with the opposite sex over the internet ?

if so how did it come about ? were you looking for it, did it just happen ?
Was the person offline the same as the person online ?

This internet dateing is not for me personally, ive got a kick ass girlfriend. But id be interested to hear some testimonies

Meeting someone over the internet isn't usually the wisest thing to do. Especially if the meeting conversation goes like:

A: O.K. The dark alley to the left of the abandoned park?
B: No of course not! The darker one to the right of the park.

If you must do this meet in as crowded a place as possible, or failing that, a police station.

I've two experiances of this.
1. My brother met his wife on IRC. Sad but he's now happily married and a kid on the way.
2. Mates brother met a girl from the UK and chucked in his job the next day, moved to the UK and split up with her the next week!Impulsive or what?

I knew a guy who met his wife through a page based internet strategy game.

the girlfriend's brother met his wife online, there now married for a few years and living over in the states.

Well I met my 2 exes on the net...

My first one was irish... she was 10 years older than me with a kid...We stayed together for over a year.

My second one I met her on yahoo. She was from the USA. We stayed together for over a year also... then she got homesick.. she wanted to leave... so I kept her here until I could afford her plane ticket (being american she couldn't get a job here... couldn't get a work permit etc... so both on my salary)...

I'm still in excellent contact with my last Ex... have no news from the previous one since the 1st of january of 2001 I believe... (ain't sure of the year... she popped in my aim to say happy new year.. and left.. LOL.. over 1 year after she broke up with me..LOL)...

Appart from that, I'm waiting for Faith to direct me to my next online g/f as nightclubs aren't working for me so far...

If it ever happens i will let you know... I think its like anything.. does picking someone up ata pub or nightclub work? Chances are its less likely to work than the net... Then again... just as likely to be the other way around.

i wouldnt say i met my girlfriend online because i actually met her in college many years ago.
but we did get reaquanted through boards.ie no less, and discovered that both of us had changed drastically (this is a good thing) and that both of us had more in common (also a good thing) than just the beer ups (a very good thing) that we used to do in college.

after i left college i disappeared for a number of years and then lo and behold, i trolled her one day and she got so píssed off she pm'd me, and we got to talking from there!

and now we are going out

I met my girlfriend online, she lives in detroit , travel is a pain in the ass but shes looking into transferring colleges to over here.

It astounds me how many of you have/or know someone who has met there girlfriend/partner/wife/husband/gimp on the web. I never would have imagined so many would have.

i think its a matter of filtering, you generally meet these people through a site/forum/chatroom about something specific, so you have something in common straight off the mark. therefore getting rid of the need for talk such as "come here often" you can move straight into proper conversation and learn a lot more about the person quicker.

I agree with this 100% ... i'm telling you, first try to talk in a pub/night club, you usually can't even hear yourself talking... how can you manage to have an interesting conversation in there?
Second, on the net, you pretty much don't care if the other one hates you... i mean... You will not look like an idiots in the middle of the dance floor or something if she says no ... right ? :-)
