    Mouse Problem in X.

I'm running the newest Debian and whenever i open gnome the mouse keeps jumping back to the bottom left corned when the mouse leaves its surface, it clicks randomly and moves very slowly and then resets to the bottom left.
I apt removed gpm to try fix it but this didn't work, any suggestions?

    vim /etc/X11/XF86Config-4

change your mouse protocol to IMPS/2

this should give you access to your wheel.

if that doesn't work try setting the protocol to PS/2.

edit: I notice (having actually read your post) that you have already removed gpm... in which case.

You either need to change your mouse protocol or change the number of buttons specified in your XF86Config file to the standard 3.

I suspect either or will fix that.

if not, maybe you have some wierd sort of IRQ conflict*

    *not likely.

its just a normal PS/2 mouse.
    not even intellimouse.
    gpm isn't instaklled any more.
tried both settings still does same thing.
    how should the config look?

    With or without a wheel?

If it has a wheel the protocol should be IMPS/2.

    If it has no wheel

The protocol should be PS/2 and eumlatebuttons should be set to 3 or better yet... don't bother emulating three buttons.

is there a program i can change these settings in without doing it manually through nanu? and the xconfig file?

Yes, but, if you have 9x % of the thingy configured then why run through the 'entire' configuration program again?

I'd use vim but, if you want use

    xf86config

    case sensitive
    as root
