In the latest edge mag, well at least i think its the latest one, it has the edge awards. Amongst them this little handheld thing which looks like a GBA. It emulates MAME, nes and a few others(i dont have the text in front of me). It said theyre working on a Snes emulator for it or the next one they release or whatever.

Anyone know about this? Sounds pretty cool but i couldnt find any sites on it. I'm curious to know if its any good etc.

    Links anyone?

/me drools at prospect of handheld snes emulator

ive been considering getting one of them for a while now.

apparently it plays mp3 and divx and uses smart media for storage. there is a port of snes9x but its meant to be a bit buggy atmo. the pc engine emu on it is meant to be one of the best around. i also hear of a possible gba emulator in the works. it might be possible as it uses the same processor as the gba only clocked 10x higher.

if i do buy one though, i think passing my exams will be a very slimp possibility

The thing about the GP32 you need to remember is it won't be a replacement for GBA.

The GBA emulation aint going to happen. It has a ton of custom processors so they best they'll get out of it is something thats slow as a dog.

SNES emulation might happen. It's hard to say. It depends on how good the people working on the emulator are. Full speed SNES emu never happened for Dreamcast so I'm not sure it'll happen for GP32.

Mega Drive emulation is a possibility. If someone ported over one of the old DOS emu's it could run full speed.

Other than that MAME emu (for 20ish games), C64, spectrum, PC Engine, NES, Master System, SCUMM Lucas Arts games are all working well. If you have an interst in any of the above you'll be happy with it.

The only thing that makes the GP32 bad value is the fact that it'll probably be obselete in 2 or 3 years. Pocket PC's are getting alot cheaper and more powerful so they'll probably supercede it soon with more power and better emulators.

Yeah I saw the same Edge issue. The same copy too.

It looks damn cool. I want one of them, if and only if it runs SNES emulators well. The prospect of DivX and mp3's only sweetens the deal.
