    not in the way your thinking ;p

    Current Setup:
    Master: 60gig, 10gig win, and 10gig lin rest free (at present)
    Slave: 20gig

    Secondary Master: DVD
    Secondary Slave: 60gig.

    I want to copy files from the 60gig slave to the
    20gig slave.

    Mounted the 60gig partition with no problems.
    Then came the task of mounting the 20gig.

    I fdisked the 20gig and made one partition on it.
    Win 95 Fat (hex code c (me thinks, late night)).
    Then I tried to mount that same drive using the
    terminal (same way as before). It mounted alrite
    but it would only read 35.1MB of the drive. Also
    which I found odd was that there was old files
    remaining on that drive that had been there
    before the fdisk.

    Whats wrong??
    What am I doing wrong??
    Im at a loss.

    Help,
    A

    fdisk /dev/hdb

    typed....
    p
    d (deleted all partitions)
    n
    ->p
    -->1
    --->(size start) default
    ---->(size end) default
    w

    Afterwards....
    Restarted.
    Tried to remount the partition.
    Same problem. Only mounted 35.1MB

    I think the hd may be fu<ked. Was installing
    linux on it last week and had a power cut while
    it was doing that.

    Was talking to someone else and they suggested
    running mkfs on the hd. Which might help things.
    Havnt tried that yet.

    Thanks,
    A.

    Yes, otherwise there will be no file system on it. However, it looks as if it is a windows partition you have. If this is what you want, boot into windows and format the partition. fdisk only creates the partition, it does not create the file system.

    Yup thanks SkepticOne found that after some
    reading and some talking to people. :)

    Cant format it using Windows cause I dont have
    windows on any of the drives/partitions at the
    moment. Cd I was trying to install windows with messed up, the 1st partition on the 60gig only
    looks like it has windows on it but it doesnt really.
    Fun, fun, fun.

    So my best bet is to use mkfs, me thinks anyways.

    You'll want to change the partition type to Linux (83) so. No point in having windows partitions if it's not dual bootable.

    Also.

    From a hardware standpoint running a DVD/CD and a hard disk off of the same IDE interface is a really bad idea, because you will totally bottleneck that IDE channel, big time.

    SkepticOne, might be putting windows on in the
    future it would be better to have a win partition.
    Afaik, windows cannot read from linux partitions
    but linux can read from windows partitions.
    Having a win partition would cause me less hassle
    in the future. Also other peoples computers that
    I may be requiring some mp3's from and such
    would be running windows rather than linux.

    Typedef, Had it slave to the DVD out of neccisity
    rather than choice. Had 3 hd's that all needed
    to be connected at the same time. Didnt have
    another means available to me.

    Ran mkfs on the hd and all is well now.

    Thanks for the info and help,
    Rgrds,
    A.

    If you really want to keep it as a windows partition why not format it using mkfs.vfat and then try mounting it?
