Does anyone know of a company that sells camera insurance [not on house insurance] for amateur photographers?

This question was asked some time ago, I'll give the same response:

As far as I am aware, there are no companies offering specific policies to photographers in this country.
However, in the open market (EU), you should be able to get a quote from a UK based company, some of which I have already listed, see here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?postid=631487#post631487

I see that you mention not wanting to insure your kit on the house insurance, why not?
Depending on the insurance company, you could upgrade your policy to all risks which would cover your equipment outside of the house (non-professional use). The equipment would need to be listed with serial numbers and individual values.

Thanks for the link, I did see that when I was lurking.

A seaprate policy would be cheaper, less red tape and if have to claim twice in succession you could be un-insurable
~[I know a guy was mugged and lost his photo-rugsack on holidays, after he settled his claim his house flooded in thet big flood 2 years ago, and his premium is huge now]

I believe that for as little as £150-£200 you can insure up to £5,000 of camera equipment [STG]. The usual no claims discounts etc will apply.

Your're right about the UK companies being allowed to provide cover, the reality is few wish to do so though. I've found one, Glover & Howe Ltd in the UK but I'd really prefer to deal with an Irish company if possible. If anyone knows of any, please post.

I'll keep my eyes open and update if I come up with anything.
I'm too busy to go to the Dublin Camera Club meeting tonight, but I should get a chance to go next tuesday. I'll ask around when I'm there, see if any of the old hands can recommend an insurance company*.

*I do remember a conversation some time ago, where this issue arose, and I seem to recall that the consensus was that household insurance was the only viable option. I'll double check anyway.
