Just want to see if anyone shares one of my pet hates.

When you go int Xtravision or Chartbusters they charge more for a new release right?
Since when is a movie that is on the TV a new release.
I was in there today and counted about 20 movies marked as new release that i have seen on TV. Most on RTE or BBC never mind sky.
I'm going to mail Xtravision's customer dissatisfaction people.

Xtravision are swines for doing this. I always figured it was just a way of charging new release prices for old crap.

just out of interest- which ones?? i can't think of any new releases in xtravision that have been on tv recently (although i could be wrong)

by the way, don't think that i'm defending xtravision in any way- they've been slowly sucking the life out of me for nearly three years now (god i feel dirty) and this is just moer ammunition to add to my already heaving arsenal of things i hate about my suck - ass job!!

The Xtra Vision in my area is good for the oldies, it has all the Alien films, and both Terminators, among almost all the old classics. Never been in a chartbuster tho.

Fight Club is still a new release in the Xtra Vision near me.

My Xtra Vision has tons of old videos but they utterly rubbish DTV stuff. They've all been destroyed for 15 years of use so they're unwatchable in that regard too.

see alot of it has to do with the manager of a particular shop and just how far she has forcible inserted her taste in music up her ANUS!!!

    (excuse personal grievences)

but it is often left up the the discretion of the manager when to mark down stock or when to remove stock etc which is why you have conflicting reports of different branches.

there is a reason they Mark up films that going to be on TV ,
there are a lot of people that will go looking for those films have been advertised on the TV that they forgot about or didnt tape esp if it is one they have not seen yet.

nothing like bbc or network 2 promoting a film a week before hand to get punters looking for it in the vidoe shops.

Niteman are you talking about Video or DVD??? Its possible if you mean DVD they could be new to DVD but been on video etc for ages if they are oldish films. Would not explain fight club though.

I dont think my local has old films as new releases... Then again i have not rented a movie in possibly a year!

well, at one stage Xtravision had Scream 1, 2 and 3 in the new release section!

Movies well over 3months old are still on new release.. but only the ones that are big budget and/or hugely hyped. Strange that.

...If anyone has a pigsback.com account, you can print off a "Rent 2 for the price of 1" voucher for Xtravision for videos/dvds/games. It's valid til the end of May. I think they're complete rip-off merchants and most of their stock is totally out-dated rubbish.
I shall rent Donnie Darko agus Training Day with my voucher...

pricing has nothing whatsoever to do with the manager of the store- everything comes from head office, and the manager is almost entirely powerless. the staff in your local video store are almost completely insignificant, especially part-timers, very little is at the discretion of the person standing in front of you, trying to while away six hours for their drinking money for college, so be nice- they probably hate the place just as much as you!

you'll have to trust me i am well aware of who does and doesn't have control of what does and deosn't get marekd down or removed. broad guidelines are given by head office but if a manger has a 'reason' for her changes or lack thereof he/she will be given the benfit of the doubt

my manager has been getting rid of a whole load of classic vids
(eg. one flew over cucko's nest, norman wisdom and hitchcock and a few others) and i have a personal vandetta

i say we give the power back to us poor insignificant part-timers! sooner or later, the empire shall be ours!!!

Chartbusters a couple of weeks ago had ANY TWO FILMS for 5 euro's so you think that is grand, but it does not say excludes new releases, they tell you that when you go up and pay for them, assholes:mad:

i know the manager at karma kabbages shop and oh my dear god she's pure evil...
she'd take out all the subtitled movies if you gave her half a chance, she has no respect for any of the classic movies,
if it's existance hasn't made it's way through her thick scull then she'd doesn't want to know about it, she's what every classic movie lover hates!!! and she must be stopped, i plan to put together a fund to pay some mersonarys to drop her into to the irish sea......

All majour credit cards execpted for donations!

jaysus!! what store is that?? that's madness!! our manager practically cried when they forced her to get rid of good quality back catalogue to make room for the new releases, games and straight to video garbage that we stock- it's ****e, it's mind numbing, it's slowly sucking the life out of us all, but hey, it sells!!
so, no more classics, no more foreign movies (we have a total of 3 titles, amelie, life is beautiful, cinema paradiso- that's IT!) if you want good quality movies i implore you to go to laser- almost every other video store employee i know rents there!!

btw- i'm in the cultural wasteland that is nutgrove- the armpit of humanity. so really there's no point in us having decent movies - the people don't want good movies- they actually seem to prefer ****e. no matter how many times i try to suggest a well made, intelligent movie, they will always prefer freddy got fingered or some tripe with jean claude van damme.. there's no point! although- hopefully i'll be outta there asap... roll on summer!

    (edit)

that would probably be the best video store in all of creation, (like that scene in clerks when randall goes into big-choice video, and falls to his knees to the strains of violins....) but it'd be full of really obscure venezuelan arthouse movies, and the only people who would rent there would be video store people!!!! heh!! (edit)

then rise up my friends join us in our plight! beardedchicken and myself shall open our own store, of 'clerks' proportions.... with all the best classics and only specially previewed and approved new releases... and those really packed out shelves where all the vids are face to face with only the spines on display

we shall call it 'BEARDED KABBAGE VIDS'

    :D

it's weird the things that bother you about videos and videos librairies after you've been working there for a while (under incapable managment)

    our day shall come

hey, you know what- we should have our own support group for the downtrodden clerks of boards!
