    hi eoin,

set up the GPRS access point as they describe
From main menu go to settings > connectivity. Make sure there is a tick
beside GPRS, then go down to data services > mail, java, Rms > highlight a
profile and click edit, highlight GPRS settings and click options > rename
and call it gprs email. Then press edit and enter the following:
    APN: open.internet
    Login name: Blank
    Password: Blank
    DNS 1 (opt.): 062.040.032.033
    DNS 2 (opt.): 062.040.032.034
Click save, go back to the main menu

you can swap in your eircom.net email detais (POP) into the mail account settings they list out - you may need to use the O2 SMTP server to send the mail off our phone (if eircom.net block connections from external networks like some ISPs do)
the main menu and into messages > msg. Setup > e-mail
    > accounts > highlight a profile click options then change settings > user
    settings and enter the following:
Provider: press the right arrow until it's at "gprs email"
Username: Your name as you would like it displayed to your mail recipients
E-mail addr.: your eircom.net email address
Reply-t.addr.: If you wish your return mails to go to a different address,
    enter this here
User ID: Your eircom.net email account username
Password: Your eircom.net email account password
Press OK, highlight mail settings and press select.
Downl. Only mails smaller than <?> kbyte: User preference
Leave copy on server?: User preference
    Types: POP3
    POP3 server: mail2.eircom.net
    POP3 port: 110
    SMTP server: smtp.o2.ie
    SMTP port: 25
    SMTP Authentic.: No
Press OK, you are now (hopefully!) set up to use the mail service on your Siemens S55!

if you are having trouble establishing a connection over GPRS then maybe your GPRS access hasn't been set up - i take it you are a bill post-pay customer? (as they replied with open.internet as an APN name)

is there an error message that comes up ?

    hth,

    Hi Brian

    Thank you for your reply.
I am on speakeasy pre pay.

I rang the tech support help line 1740 (i think) and they spent some time helping me.
The girl was very nice and spent some time helping me.
She rang me back on sunday afternoon and told me i can have MMS and e-mail setup at the same time. (some issue on o2s side.)
I asked her to make the change blocking my MMS and setting up e-mail.
She said she would and that i shoul be able to e-mail later in the day.
I checked this moring and i was still getting the same error "GPRS connection failure"
I am using the connection iffo she gave me.

Any one else have any ideas.

ahh - they shouldn't have given you those GPRS details then! the open.internet is for bill post-pay customers
you need them to set up pp.internet for you to be able to check your POP email over GPRS for Speakeasy (if you are still having problems connecting it may not be set up) so you need to ask them to enable pp.internet for your account

when they have set it up you need to enter in the GPRS details below (one other point - some devices can have problems if the username / password is left blank so entering in some text like grps for both would solve that - may not be relevant on the S55 but worth noting)

    i.e.
From main menu go to settings > connectivity. Make sure there is a tick
beside GPRS, then go down to data services > mail, java, Rms > highlight a
profile and click edit, highlight GPRS settings and click options > rename
and call it gprs email. Then press edit and enter the following:
    APN: pp.internet
    Login name: Blank
    Password: Blank
    DNS 1 (opt.): 062.040.032.033
    DNS 2 (opt.): 062.040.032.034
Click save, go back to the main menu

the email details above should be ok

    hth,
