General Knowledge TV QUIZZES

THE ONLY GOOD GENERAL KNOWLEDGE QUIZZES:

    University Challenge
    15-to-1

    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
That's the lot - there are no other good general knowledge quiz shows! Both quizzes are well-researched, have varied topics, move at lightning speed, have competent presenters (Paxman and Stewart), and don't rely on gimmicks.

    CONTENDERS THAT FELL SHORT:

Challenging Times (Myers couldn't cope with quickfire questions / clone of U.C.)
Krypton Factor (Good show, but not a general knowledge show)
Mastermind (Not fully general knowledge / too much time wasting between contestants)
Weakest Link (P*ss-easy questions / too many 'celeb' shows)
Blackboard Jungle (P*ss-easy [well it was for kids!] / too much time wasting)
Crystal Maze (Like K.F. it's not general knowledge)

    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
I won't even include Who Wants To Be A Millionaire 'cos it is so bloody slow and the question difficulty varies so dramatically! It can be exciting *cough*, but I'd even rate Going For Gold higher! ;)

Ah, Krypton Factor. Now that was a quiz show. I never missed it. Though, I thought the last series where they changed the whole format completely and introduced Penny Smith as a second presenter was crap.

By the way, am I alone in this or did anyone else here really, really wanted to have a go on the flight simulators? In particular, I would have killed to have had a go on the Sea King helicopter simulator where you had to land it on the deck of the aircraft carrier. Anyone else remember that?

I liked the spot-the-difference video test in Krypton Factor. Sehr gut!

But again, UNIVERSITY CHALLENGE is KING!

Blackboard Jungle (P*ss-easy [well it was for kids!] / too much time wasting)

For a kids show (well secondary schools) it had some Hard questions. The show which replaced it was an insult even to kids, Gridlock.

This not being one of them:-

Ray D'arcy: Which american was assainated in the 1960's in Dallas?
    Contestant: JR

Any one ever on Blackboard Jungle?

Also 90" on TG4 was good.

I always wanted to do the flight sim. It feckin rocked. There was nearly always one spanner who crashed his plane into a ditch about 10 miles from the runway! :p
The aircraft carrier was way harder to land on (based on my own flight sim experience on the pc) but such a buzz if ye land it spot on.
I thought they wrecked the last series too, a wise man once said "If it's not broken, then don't fix it".

    What ?
No 'it's not the answer' ???

The most crazy hard 'quiz' I have ever seen, and that presenter really, really annoys me.

Didnt Blockbusters make some kind of revival, a few years back.

That rocked !!!, 'cept for when Bob would chat with the Stoods and waste time.

And the theme music, was deadly !!!

What about 'Beat the Teacher', with Bruno Brooks?
My memory of it is extremely vague, was it even a quiz, it must have stuck in my head for a reason...
    :p

"Beat the Teacher" sounds familiar, as does Bruno Brooks as the presenter, but I don't remember anything else about it. You're right though, Space_Coyote, something makes me think it was indeed some kind of quiz show for kids.

As for "It's Not The Answer", yeah, I've got to admit a lot of the questions can be pretty hard. But that presenter is just crap! He looks like he doesn't even want to be there half the time and he really seems to struggle to even think of something to say when he's talking to the contestants sometimes. Still though, it could be worse. We could still be stuck looking at "Talkabout" (http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?postid=861288#post861288) or "The Lyric's Board." Now they were crap quizshows!

Yes Blockbusters had made a sort of revival on Sky One last year or the year before. Lisa Tarbuck had replaced Bob though which wasn't a good idea.
    Can I have a P please, Bob

    :D :ninja:
