A 16-YEAR-OLD boy set a woman on fire with lighter fluid and then poured a pot of boiling water over her after he stabbed a man from his ankle to the top of his head, during a new year's eve burglary, a court heard yesterday.

    ...

It is alleged that the 16-year-old boy beat the male visitor for an hour with a spade and then stabbed him from the top of his head to his ankle, he said. It is also alleged that the boy poured boiling water over him.

Detective Garda Digan also said that the boy then held the woman visitor against the sitting room wall where he poured lighter fluid over her and set her on fire. When the fire was put out he then poured boiling water over her, the court heard.

    ...

The judge refused jurisdiction to hear the case and ruled that the boy should be tried on indictment in the Circuit Criminal Court.

All three are on restrictive bail.

That is completly sickening. These people should spend their adult lives locked away, yet they're out on bail as I'm typing this post. Horrific.

    Article here.

I think the kid needs some serious mental help, soon.

3 people are on restrictive bail?

Steady on. Horrific, yes, but it sounds a hell of a lot more like you're dealing with someone very seriously mentally disturbed there than with a criminal mind.

I'd wager that "restrictive bail" in this instance probably means a mental care institution.

Entirely OT, but it just caught me. I wonder what train of thought went through whoevers head it was when they decided it was a good idea to put the non-bastàrdised version up.

Hmph. We now return you to your thread of choice..

I see no earthly reason why such a worthless piece of trash should ever be released from incarceration.

I'm agreeing with Shinji, he's probably being mentally assessed before Trial. From my experience with courts it can take quite a while before a sentence will be carried out. Mental care is the best solution imo should be more intergrated with . Too many of these psyco's are about in Dublin atm and NOTHING is being done.

I work in Tallaght and some of the crap that I have seen still shocks me. I have been assaulted on more then one occasion by what i'd call utter scum. This guy was 16 and had more then 70 convictions as I saw the list on the Garda Pulse system (which needs a MAJOR review). The Judge eventually puts him away for two years only to be released after 4 weeks....with probation (yay)

The point is this guy is going to keep doing it again and again. Rather then sweeping him under the rug, we SHOULD be teaching/helping him. Honestly if not, it will be the same sh*t all over in a few years/months after the person get out.

What is resrictive bail though? Is it a mental health care as Shinji suggested or just a bail dependant on him staying a particular area or staying away from the victims or some other conditions?

In either case I side with the lock them up for ooooh about 70 years brigade. Better safe than sorry and when you consider hes just 16 with a whole load of potential to burn then its definitly better to be safer.

Restrictive bail in Ireland means he has to sign in at his local Garda station at a certain time every day. It doesn't mean he's in a mental care unit.

    .logic.

That to be honest sounds like someone (a) genuinely disturbed (b) on drugs or (c) on (or off) medication. If he was considered a threat I doubt he would have been bailed.

    Jesus Christ superstar.

The system works! Cos if he was in jail he might come out worse....somehow.

If he was mentally insane when he commited the act, and he went through the proper areas to be 'cured', then that would be a reason to release him, buh.

Who cares? The piece of **** did what he did, lock him up for life.

That's the same attitude that saw the US forcefully medicate an insane prisoner to restore him to sanity in order to execute him for crimes committed while insane.

Don't you think that would be a bit expensive?

I reckon he should be executed instead, trials are expensive as well so none of this courts business.

Actually state executions don't come cheap either what with all this humane death pinko lefty liberal rubbish.

Nah just throw the kid to a baying mob jacked up on angel dust (that they buy themselves), charge admission and get Sky to buy the TV rights.

Any hope we could confirm that he's insane first?

Yeah - see, when the US "justice" system did that, they weren't trolling.

    Biffa,
Yes it is - you stated you didn't care about his mental state, you just wanted him punished. That's what was done in the states in the case I referred to.

Why does it say 3 people are on bail, who are the others??
