    Hi,

I'm Benjamin Duyck, an 18 year old student at the university of antwerp. Some friends and i were planning a holiday in south west ireland. Now we had some questions concerning our trip.

We arnt really going to plan our holiday because of the possibility of us not liking a certain town an then being obligated to stay there because payed for the reservationas, if you know what i mean

So we are planning to bring a tent and perhaps be can stay in a hotel or inn or something. Now i was wondering if anyone knows good locations, things to do, things to visit etc.

Is wildcamping permitted in Ireland, if yes, where can we make a fire with rocks around it or something. Howis the quality of water in the lakes, like the likes near killarney... Is it warm enough to swim in,can you drink it ? Can you just fish in the lakes or rivers ?

can you just fish? I mean, all the info you have for us, or perhaps advice and stuff... plz post here

To fish you will need a fishing permit, You can purchase these is tackle/bait shops in the local area. Not deer about a tenner i think. Fishing bailif's are very angry people most of the time so dont get caught without a permit.

Do not drink water out of the lakes unless you boil it first. Generally drinking water from fast running rivers near the top of mountains is ok but nowadays you wouldnt know what sitting in lakes.

There are numerous camping/caravan sites around that area. Cost can be as little as E2 per tent per night although some of the camp sites that have shower/kitchen facilities might be more.

anyone knows good locations, things to do, things to visit etc.

    - Ring of Kerry
    - Dingle Peninsula. Way nicer and less touristy than the former.

Not really sure if it is permitted but I have never really seen anyone do it.

There's only one lake around Killarney decent for Swimming and that is Lough Guittane. Never really seen anyone swim in the main Killarney lakes, there are actually countless warnings everywhere. As much as I have wanted to myself, always resisted the temptation.

I personally wouldn't drink the water straight out of any of the lakes/rivers.

There are quite a few nice beaches in Kerry. Inch, Ventry. Rossbeigh, Wine Strange, Kells Bay etc. While it clearly isn't Hawaii and the water can be fairly cold, the swimming isn't too bad.

I live in Kerry so if you have any further questions, feel free to ask.

    Jeremiah
