The amazing Irish shot marks of '92

What is the story behind the amazing progression of the Irish SP record in '92?

Two men on different sides of the Atlantic managed to ratchet up the record to an internationally repectable distance, then never repeated their form. Surely there is a story here. I know that Victor went on to a more lucrative carreer in Rugby, but what about Paul, as he kept competing for some time although a shadow of his 20m self.

What lessons are to be learnt from these lads for the up and coming Irish shot putters? Can they or their coaches shed any light on their training methods?
