Ok, how about I try something for people.

I want to try get 5 bands, into a showcase type thing, I'm gonna try organise it with some boards people, like a boards beer type thing, but first, I want to know if theres interest. How about I review some demos/mp3's and select five bands to play a Boards.ie showcase, we book a venue, get people to pay in a small fee, oh i dunno a fiver, and we share the money out amongst the bands. So lets say we try get some venue free over summer (free so we don't lose money) And if say 50 people went, thats 50 quid each,no bother! I think thats being fair, and I'm sure if it works out, we could get more than 50 people there, a nice like wage packet for a band.

Nothing has been said on this at all,
it's just an Idea, i just want to know what people think. Oh BTW, I don't really want bands who will just sign up to boards today to do this, I want some boards.ie talent, not some scroungers tryna make some easy money, but I'm sure it will be ok.

    So post your thoughts!

And maybe we can get the Boards Band to play, if they are still around.

we'd be interested in playing dude. www.20bullseach.com
we would probably tbe he heaviest band on the card though so be warned

PS, Voodoo Lounge is probably your best bet for a venue

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,989 ✭✭✭✭Giblet

It's a good pub, but a bit out of the way, and the stage is tiny. And I don't really care how heavy the bands are. More variety is a good thing.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,638 ✭✭✭bombidol

cool, i only say voodoo cause they seem to be the easiest to deal with. Dorans would be ok either but more expensive to deal with.
Maybe get on to a promoter than runs in a venue and arrange it through them as opposed to running through the venue themselves. the promoter would know everything to do with the venue and could handle it easier

I'd be happy to support this, however time and money are very tight so I cant promise either. Goodwill, boards beer and promotion however cost little of either and I'd be happy to help.

Any idea if its hard to get the stage in the Stephens Green? I've seen bands play there and some saturday afternoon in the summer would rock!

    DeV.

Thanks DeVore, I just need to get the support for it, and then I'll see about venues. An open air type thing in summer would be cool :>

I just want to get the interest levels, before I do anything.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 389 ✭✭Morello

That's a great idea! I'd be definitely interested even though, being quite a "young" member, probably some other bands should have priority...

Please drop me an email if you're going to do it and there's a free slot.

    Thanks a mil, A.

since i wont be in a working band again for a while, make sure this goes well cause i'd love to do the next one:)
out doors would be animal, you could call it BOARDSTOCK !!!
although, i dont see how you'd manage to do it open air. in anycase it would be cool, has this ever been done before?

Ok, I'm considering Whelans as a venue, some saturday night. Now If anyone can help with prices/reductions, and the general booking of this place, it would be great.
Whelans has a great athmosphere, but it might be hard to get!

Of course this is still open to suggestion, if you don't want the gig here, just say.

Whelans has a good atmosphere when its full. Could boards.ie draw enough along with walk ins to get a decent crowd though. back in the day when i done some promotion Whelans was like250 Punts a night during the week
id say its double that for weekend, IF you can get an open date

I have The FANJ trying to work us a deal,
This could very well be coming out of my money, so if anyone can throw us a few hundred quid it would be great.

The main problem I forsee is, we have to get everyone in before 10, or as many as possible, to secure ourselves the money, or whelans will take everything after 10pm.

I hope this works out well!

I wonder will DeV allow us to run some little banner soon :>

I believe Whelans costs something between 300 and 400 for a Saturday... it's quite hard to get though: they'll have to be sure you're going to pack the venue. Usually you can keep the money at the door until 10 or 10.30

You can contact Derek [dereknally@oceanfree.net] for bookings, he's a nice guy and will tell you more

    Good luck! A.

If I have my band together by summer and we're any good, I'd love to give this a shot. I'll see how things go.

I also may be able to throw a bit of money your way.

And you can consider these two things mutually exclusive. ;)
