Using a UVW unwrapper Modifier in MAX is the best way to get seemeless tectures..... i find it works better than anyof those 3d paint packages,,,

Have a look at "cooking" out procedural textures and using that as a base.... u should be able to read about that stuff on the web. there is a free plug for max called simbiont (i think) which will give you some real nice procedural textures tyo work from as base.

Texporter another free plug will output the object's uvw co-ords for easy working with in max too.

I suggest using splines to create this middle shape but if if fell better using mesh.... might i suggest looking at adding a mesh smooth modifier at the end and changing the crease and weighting of various edges and verts to get the final shape.... you're not that far from it there as you are.

Skecthing the shape in different views... left and froint then taking them into max.... aplying them as a texture to a plane is a great way of getting the shape perfect too.

Its also symmetrical so only model one half then mirror and weld the vert...BE SURE AND DELETE INSIDE FACES AND VERTS!!!!.... You can morror it first as an instance then what hanges you make on the left will happen automatically on the right etc.... ery handy and time saving if using meshsmooth do this BEFORE adding the modifier.

Anyway its late and im goin to bed to wake up tommorrow and spen the entire day workin on animating characters.... good night ... and good luck!!!!

There'll be tutorials on al thesethings mentioned on the net i'm sure.

Mayvbe if i get time i'll take you through it step by step but i doubt i'll have the spare in the near future like sorry ....I could unwrap it for you maybe? I dunno..... keep us al posted on how you're getting on anyway...
