OSX Mail Question

    Hi,

For any of you using Mac OSX Mail client, when you email certain people with attachments have you noticed those that check their emails from Windows/UNIX machines usually get the attachment twice (with the second one being blank) or get the attachment and an additional file that has the same name but extension .frk.

I did some research into this and found out apparently the .frk feature is MacOS only and other OSs cannot recognise this.

Is there any way to tell MacOS Mail to just send the attachments normally (ie no extra .frk files) So the person using Outlook Mail or Netscape Mail just recieves the file I attached and nothing more?

    Thanks
    -Fawad

I've noticed that. In fact I usually get error messages when attaching xl or word docs too :( I usually have to send to a windows client from another mail server, very very annoying. I haven't tried fixing it yet but a quick glance at preferences doesn't lead me anywhere.

Try using Sherlock on the Apple support. I'll do that when I have time.

Would love to see that problem fixed.

Apparently after searching Applecare Documents (I never knew I could on Sherlock, thanks!) And posting on macnn.com forums, it seems this is a common problem that everyone faces.. apparently Mail isn't modern enough yet. The work around most of them have suggested is to use Entrouge v.X or some other Mail client.

I think Im going to be bold, and email Apple about this problem directly.

First Im going to check if OSX 10.2.5 fixes this problem though :)

    Some more advice from forums.macnn

Download and install grimripper http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/16168 and you can get rid of the resource fork from a file. OSX doesn't need them anyway. Then attach the file and email.

Hey thanks for that Synkronite! Grim Ripper = great little program freeware that adds to the contextual menu the choice to delete the resource fork. Will find out if it does the business on Monday at my work pc.

    Thanks for that! :)
