Why do we wear different clothes?

Is there any need for such a selection of clothes? All brand names seem to do is seperate the "hip" from everyone else. Surely we could all just wear exactly the same type of clothing? Originally (a long time ago) most people did wear very similar clothes (or rags!) - so why do we have such a variety now? Does this choice serve any purpose apart from making some people rich and some people poor?

There are a number of reasons (sorry to break the high with actual reasons!).. no then again im not... junkie!!

One reason is Boredom.. same clothing is boring!!
Another is hygene.. the same clothing is one reason the plagues spread so fast..
How about prisons.. how would you tell an escaped prisoner if everyone dressed the same?
By the way when you were on your high were you watching some old sci-fi movie? If so its obvious where the thread came from!

The biggest reason though... Economics... you cant have a clothing manufacturer making all the clothes for the planet!! You need competition and there is none when you make the same type of clothes.. nuff said!

How about individuality! Style? Being unique in your dress sense. Even if we were in the stone age and we were all just wearing loincloths, I still think I'd maybe die my loincloth with some blood or something to make it a dashing, go-fasta red.

It's all about individuality. We're not all the same, why should our clothes be?

I suppose the world has gone corporation crazy and the only reason large companies (lets take nike) exist is to make money,

more brands, more variety, more choice, more money, more sh*t jobs, more design, more brands, more variety, more money, more sh*t jobs etc etc etc

kind of a vicious crazy circle of profit and demand.
