Software now available for Nokia 7650 and 3650 allows you to control your TV, Video, Stereo etc using the Infra Red Port.

See it HERE

Excellent.

V10 ;)

wont work for me...

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,866 ✭✭✭v10

I tried it with a Philips TV and no problem but couldn't get it to work with a Grundig TV nor a Philips VCR.

At least you can download the demo and try it before you buy it I suppose. They will apparently be upgrading it regularly adding new models as time goes on.

V10;)

Unfortunatly it didn't work with any of my TV's.
It worked with the video though :-)

Thought it might work for my sky box but it didn't :-(

How can I get this on my phone without bluetooth or infared?
Can I upload it to a wap site and download it on the phone?

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 258 ✭✭peterd

Set up an email address on the ph (like @vodafone.ie), and send it to that.

I tried that but when I go into my messages on the phone it shows the message with
attachments:whatever.sis
At the end but I cant download it.
Any ideas?

When you're in the message view, go Options > Attachments > Options > Open . It should ask you if you want to install, and hey presto. Go to the main menu, and it should be at the end of the list, or else in Tools > Apps. HTH

Are you on about setting up a pop3 mailbox on the phone?
I cant get that to work.. I dont know what settings to use :confused:

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,027 ✭✭✭flywheel

using the WAP browser to check your mail only shows you the text content of the mail - there is no way to get at the attached files (as you've found out!)

you'd need to set up a POP mailbox in the phone's Messaging application - there are a few threads in this forum with settings (try a search for "mail" or "mail 7650") - or if you want a quick answer - are you pre-pay or post-pay, and which operator?

Before I got a bluetooth key, I would upload apps up to a directory and use the following, simple PHP script, to list out any files there as WML hyperlinks, from which I would be able to download them:
<?php
header("Content-type: text/vnd.wap.wml");
print "<?xml version=\"1.0\"?".">";
?>
<!DOCTYPE wml PUBLIC "-//WAPFORUM//DTD WML 1.1//EN" "http://www.wapforum.org/DTD/wml_1.1.xml"&gt;
<wml>
<head><meta http-equiv="Cache-Control" content="no-cache"/></head>

<card id="init" title="foobar">
<?
$listdir = dirname($_SERVER["PATH_TRANSLATED"]);
$handle = @opendir($listdir);
while (($file = readdir($handle)) !== false) {
if ($file != ".." && $file != "." && $file != $PHP_SELF) {
$s_Size = round ((filesize($file) / 1024), 1);
echo "\t\t<p><a href=\"".$file."\">".$file." (".$s_Size." KB)</a></p>\n";
$b_Content = true;
}
}
closedir($handle);
if (!$b_Content) echo "<p align=\"center\"><b>Empty!</b></p>\n";
?>
</card>

</wml>
Pre pay vodafone, ill give the corinthian's script a go later!

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,027 ✭✭✭flywheel

to get your @vodafone.ie email through the POP mailbox explained here:
http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=77095

not sure if they have opened up the GPRS ISP access point for pre-pay yet, last I heard was they hadn't

so your other option is HSCSD and it's details are here (but use V.110 as the data call type):
http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=85121

otherwise you can set up any free dial-up ISP (eircom.net) and configure your POP mailbox to use that as the connection

Has anyone had any noteable success with this product really? i failed to get it to work with any device either at home or in a pub(got sick of sky news, but fone was a no go to change the channel...).......................does seem a bit premature to release a full version with such little product success like, from what i've seen on other boards also vast majority of people had no success at all.......seems crap enuf....irda wasn't designed for this tho i suppose......o well...:ninja:

The Corinthian did you use this script on sis files as it doesnt seem to be working:confused:

• Closed Accounts Posts: 19,777 ✭✭✭✭The Corinthian

Should work on SIS files, although you'll probably get problems if there are any spaces in your filenames. Content-type appears to be immaterial for apps downloaded by the 7650, btw.

As I said, it's a very simple script and comes with as much support as it does a price tag.

Great programme !

Worked on our new 32inch Philips TV and Philips video and also worked on our 15 year old Sony TV.

Got lucky i suppose.

I tryed with hscsd and it said invalid username.
And with a regular dial up it says its text only service.

did you have an @e-merge.ie address at any stage?

try with email_address@e-merge.ie (i have to use that as my username as it never transferred over to email_address@vodafone.ie when i migrated online at vodafone.ie)

failing that - calling data support they can reset / advice you of the email address to use for the username

All I can say is *why*? Though this would have helped my ex-girlfriends father! He accidentally brought his TV remote control with him when he went out on his boat on the Shannon thinking it was his mobile phone. Had he been using his mobile as a remote control he would have been sorted!

Personally, I'm waiting for a mobile phone with a cigarette lighter (for chicks that smoke) and an inbuilt pen. I don't care if it can control my telly!
