    Lo,

He is looking to know what is a good make of amp and bass guitar to go looking for a second hand one.
Any and all advice welcome and gratefully recieved.

Depending on how much he is willing to spend, I would say look out for a second hand Aria (or a new one:P) and a trace elliot 60w. 500 euro for all if your lucky :P

I'm not too clued in on basses BTW

    Bass Guitars
    Fernandez
    Crafter
    Musicman (expensive!)

I'm no bass hound but i hear
    Bass Amps
Ampeg are the best (gonna cost ya)
Trace elliot Second best (still ka ching)

Remember to check the buy and sell for great deals.

i got me a 60watt Trace Elliot for 370 eurons last year. as for second hand basses - buy and sell is your ONLY man. for new basses: you can get a squier p-bass for under 200 i imagine and i'd say a squier jazz would be a little more pricey. but dont get the squier coz it has fender writen on it, tell him to go out and play with the stuff in the shops and if he likes the feel/sound/weight/look/price of it, then get it. for a begginer, plent of places would do deals on a bass with a pracitice amp etc. it also depends on the style of music.

ps: why have i only ever seen one guy play a cort bass on stage?

    my first ninja - :ninja:

    Hi,

There's some new basses called "OLP" which are an exact replica of a Musicman Stingray. They're actually licenced by Ernie Ball, it's not like the real thing but it's great value for the money.

    Here's one: http://www.netzmarkt.de/thomann/thoiw6_artikel-149702.html

This is 450 euros. Saw a couple of them in Music Maker last week if you want to check them out

About the amp, me thinks even the crapiest is fine to learn... then when he's good enough he can buy a proper one

    Enjoy! A.

NNOO!! stay well clear of them squiers!! and SX too!!

those OLPs should be nice, havent tried them out but as a baby Musicman it would probably be high quality.
Fernandes (as i have said many times) are excellent, as are Aria.

where did you get that 60W Trace Elliot???

Well if you want good amps and you want good prices leem, line 6 ,are good to start with and dont cost to much. But so far as guitars you need quality i just spent 1400 euro on a new strat.now im not suggesting you splash out like that but the best value for money would be a SX bass.and the buy the fender my friend bought a feder bass in america for 550 dollars a few days ago and it would go for a grand over here.Oh and newbies never come out of the store with a lead no lead no sound.
