    Query:

    Infrastructure = physical
    Category = Telecoms
    Variable = availability of DSL service
    Year = 2003

    "No data returned"

    Try ISDN instead of DSL

    "No data returned"

    What is "ADSL at 640k"?

    No problem finding towns with "Gas supply at 4-16 bar pressure"

    But when it comes to telecommunications in Ireland.... who gives a ....?

    Last year it was funny reading that. It counts shedloads of unlit fibre in the Telecoms section.

    Apart from the fact that it makes my Browser Barf with all its java, it is tragic to read it now.

    Has anyone noticed that Forfás have GIVEN up on it and have never included the Aurora (Bord Gáis) or Fiberco (ESB) fibres on the list of 'available' infrastructure?

    I have it on good authority that this very matter was pointed out to them last year.

    If you are interested in reading about telecoms infrastructure in Ireland have a look at this. It is a booklet I was involved in producing a few years back. It's a bit out of date (3 years maybe) but in terms of infrastructure it's quite good.

    Once the bottom fell out of the market carriers stopped building infrastructrure. Apart from ESBT, Aurora (mainly ducts) and Dublin Corporation. eircom and Esat were always upgrading but very little in the past couple of years, Esat mainly laying fibre into the eircom exchanges.
    The 2002 maps in the booklet are forecast based on discussions with operators in 2000/1
