I can't really pick a favorite, I'd say pacino over deniro- deniro has made a lot of ****e recently whereas pacino makes even ****e watchable!
I've always liked robert duvall and james caan too, their consistently better than good.
Gene hackman seems to get better all the time.

I'd probably go with pacino if pushed.......

    :D Generation Gap Alert!

When I saw the subject I had James Stewart or Paul Newman in mind! Gene Hackmans great, always good value as are the two I mentioned but I think I'll give my vote to someone whos a better actor than credited and who dominates any movie which is what a star name should do (but he's taken a back seat on occassion too)

    Clint Eastwood

    Mike.

If were talking properly old school though, it's James Stewart.

Just finished watching a documentary about James Stewart and it brought back to me just how much I love him and his films, so he'd probably be my all-time favourite. He was so funny, so good at mixing darkness and decency.

Then there's Jack Lemmon, Henry Fonda, Lauren Bacall, and more recently people like Jack Nicholson, Faye Dunaway and of course Bob Dylan in Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid :)

They're just off the top of my head, I'm sure I'll think up loads more.

if we are talking old school old school then its gotta be Orson Welles! but if we are talking about the older generation in Hollywood at the minute then I would say....Al Pacino...he's done some great stuff recently, Marlon Brando....will always rate in my books after the Godfather and Apocalypse Now! Robert Redford? Micheal Douglas? I guess they are worth a mention!
