From an article on F1-Racling Live the day before the Brazilian GP
Irvine happy that Jordan refused his services
“They are a shadow of their former selves.” [06/04/03 - 08:12]

    Ralph Firman

ddie Irvine has admitted that he is glad Jordan Grand prix signed up Ralph Firman for the 2003 season rather than taking him up on his offer to drive for them, as he couldn't have dealt with another disappointing season.

After being dropped by Jaguar Racing in favour of mark Webber and Antonio Pizzonia in November last year, Eddie focused onn returning to the team that gave him his F1 break all those years ago. Many believed that the deal would pan out and we would have the Irishman back at Jordan and partnering Giancarlo Fisichella.

However, this didn't eventuate and team boss Eddie Jordan took a chance on another Irishman, Ralph Firman instead. Irvine was very bitter at the time, stating he even offered his services for free, in an attempt to keep his F1 career alive. But now, just two races into the season, Eddie has changed his mind…..

“Although I tried hard to keep my career going by offering my services to Jordan, I have to say that judging from the opening two races I'm glad it didn't work out,” he said in the Sun. “I couldn't have stood another season running near the back of the grid and, while Jordan may be celebrating their 200th race, don't expect any miracles from them. They are a shadow of their former selves. It would be great to see them running higher on the grid but it's just not going to happen. And I have to say I'm enjoying watching the action with a drink in my hand rather than being in the thick of it all.”

Meanwhile, Giancarlo Fisichella put in a strong qualifying run and is the best Bridgestone runner behind the two Ferrari drivers.

    HAAAHAAAA!

    :D
