I-Stream order

Well, that was suprisingly quick. I phoned the 1800 number first thing this morning and got through to the rep. My line passed, but what was worry was that she said it was the first one that had today.

The self connection is the cd, guide, 1m usb cable and the filters plus rj11. Interestingly enough she did say that if I went DIY I would HAVE to buy the Eircom modem.

Then again, the cabling in the house is dodgy as hell, and I need the sockets moving anyway.

The can't take my order, but will have somone call me after the 11th to see if I'm still interested.

The ADSL and Eircom websites were down this morning - wonder why?

That isn't true - whatever the circumstances, you dont have to buy Eircoms overpriced modems. You can get an internal one for less than EURO60 if you shop around.

you do not have to buy one of their modems. they will give you some crap that with the self install they will not be able to verify any issue with the connection cause it may be a modem or line issue and they will not support the modem. however you can buy your own. however you may be forced to get an eng to do a proper install alot quicker then someone you bought their modem, i was quoted around 130-140 euro from the girl for an eng to install a splitter

She did say they will be dropping the price to 120 from Friday, but I did see a cheap ADSL router and a wireless one in IT direct yesterday.

I only need to connect the one machine, unless of course I finally set up the server and have it running with a mail server on it - just for the hell of it.

I do need the sockets and phone line moving anyway (currently goes through the wall, around and down the front door, along the skirting, up and around the front room doo and into the kitchen - YEUCH - done before I moved in) , and if I can call him out to do that at the same time, all the better :)

I might hold off for a few days, just to see if there are any horror stories with the first few new installations

Just got a call from an I-Stream Tech. (forgot to get name) Sorry

He says my line passed (living in Clontarf)

Also you DO NOT have to but their modems even for self install.

Was damn quick seeing as I requested the test last friday!

Really? They did my test on the same day I rang up. Only took a few mins.

Duh ... well, we shall see if I get a call on Friday. I will probably go for the engineer as I need all the cables moving, buy would consider buying my own modem.

    Ethernet/USB - pro's and cons?
