Ah, the eternal Thursday night choice. I can never decide, and usually end up flicking between the two.

Bit of an odd poll seeing as the two shows have little to do with each other.
The West Wing-set in the white house,no on screen violence, little to no swearing....
Oz-Violent,ghey raphin, foul mouthed, drug taking..........I cant make the connection.Perhaps whoever suggested that Oz should now have a sticky thread was right(though you could say the same for "Have the simpsons gone crap"threads"which pop up on average every third Sunday after one of the poorer new episodes has been shown(I still have faith however, the majority of new ones are still fairly good, just few of them are classics).

Anyway I prefer Oz.Gripping stuff, and as for those of you put off by the gayness TBH there is not a whole pile-in fact we are two seasons in and I have yet to remember a scene wherewe saw two naked guys shagging or even kissing.Alot of people I know are put off watching it because of their percieved amounts of bum banditry but it is mostly done off camera so to speak so you ought not let it put you off(though IIRC it becomes a bit more common in later seasons).
As for the Wes Wing I only ever watched it once or twice.I watched the"controversial"september 11th episode and found it to be very boring and had more holes than Swiss cheese.A muslim with known pro fundamentalist beliefs being allowed to work in the white house undetected? My arse.
Though before you point it out yes i admit that Oz does have some rather odd plot directions.Such as the way Miguel kept getting stabbed and getting taken back outr of solitary in spite of the fact he seems to kill somebody every time he gets out.Or how the staff pretty much said no bad feelings and even got on with Kareem Said in later seasons, despite the fact he lead the riot.Or how Schillinger and Beecher are still kept in the same prison despite the fact they have both killed members of each others families and tried numerous times to kill or wound each other.Or how Cyril manages to end up in a jail where he will be under the care of a doctor whos husband he killed.Or how..........
    Im getting too picky:D

And as I said in my signature.........:D*

*Only messing with you,but what I meant was that apart from being on Thursdays they have little in common with each other, much like saying"At six o clock do you watch the simpsons or the six o clock news?"

    never really thought of this.

my main reason was that i was havin an argument with some1 on boards, he said west wing, i said oz. its really to rub it in his face [i had no doubt oz wud win] and aswell, the recent thread on the west wing ended up being taken over with oz posts, so i though it was relevent.

    jimmeh :)

i didnt get the connection at first but now I see it...the thursday night dilemma...dont watch either really but id have to go for the west wing. What ive seen of Oz looks pretty good, the acting aint half bad and its a tough subject matter to handle, while its managed on one hand they make a complete turkey of it on other occassions! plus unless you do watch it religiously its easy to miss something...you know, who tried to stab who, who's brother-in-law's grandmother was accidently shot by who or who accidently on purpose dropped their soap in the shower!

The west wing on the other hand is an easy hours entertainment. a thin veil is drawn over whats happening in real life and on the show ie very similar problems seem to pop up...makes for no brainer veg out with a mug of hot choc tv!

Easy? I find it hard to stay awake while watching. The constant mind knumbing waffle of rubbish and abbrivated words leave you longing for the ad breaks which give you about 3 minutes to regain some sort of idea of the show, only to be drawn into another mind worp of a over weight Charlie muttering about currant affairs that arnt so much currant.

At least with Oz theres blood :D
Though not too much latly, or porn for that matter. What has happened :( . I hope tonights episode will return to its usual filth :D

i love the way the wes wing just makes up countries whenever they feel like goin to war :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,487 ✭✭✭banquo

actually they only did that once, and that was because they had to assassinate they're (Qumar's) minister for something or other.

And that episode won 11 awards.

How many awards has Oz won, not counting the poll on boards?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,487 ✭✭✭banquo

and as another kick in the teeth, a concise list of any awards that the west wing has. (page loads v quickly)

It shows that just because it wins awards means ****. West Wing is ****e. Gowan the Oz! If you want to know how many awards Oz has won goto imdb.com .. But we all know Oz is more enjoyable to watch then West Wing and thats all that matters.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,761 ✭✭✭✭Winters

Who is watching Oz now and not the West Wing ...

Adobesi had aleady done Chebbetta (Sp?) up the ass... I think this episode will be good. We have all waited two weeks for it! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,487 ✭✭✭banquo

Oz people, please, your argument is pathetic.

Just becuase a show has won awards, and so has something else you don't like does not not make the show a bad thing.

Which show is better is obviously a matter of opinion and, having never watched oz (for obvious reasons) I can only say that the West Wing is clearly better. Much better.

It's very easy to call me a moron, but i'd like to see you try to find fault with my reasoning.

Yes, yes it is. But that's purely your fault.

Fault = If you have not seen/experienced something then you are unqualified to compare it to something else.

Who saw last nights episode of Oz?
It was amazing wasent it. How many deaths did you count? I saw at least 4 or 5 which seems to be a pretty good record. :D

A fantastic episode last night, best one since the riot. The crucifiction was brilliant! I can't wait to see what Beecher does when he gets those casts off!

I watched the last 20 minutes after the West Wing and, realising that i'm at a disadvantage, I have to say there is no comparison. Oz desperately tried to create atmosphere (the stabbing, the press conference) without going anywhere. The dialogue was patchy, the speech at the end was cringeworthy. By the end his efforts to be emphatic were embarassing. Even the people around him lost interest. The music was infuriating, the racial stereotypes heavy-handed, the script choppy and directionless. Even the sets were off-puttingly clinical. And while I realise they were aiming for a documentary style, it looked like it had been shot by film students. And the thing in the room with the big face is really weird. The acting, on the other hand, was impressive though they had nothing of interest to say. Ill give it another chance but if this is a good episode...
