Right folks i want to pick this up
    http://www.music123.com/Item/?itemno=36517
but i dont know what the story is with voltage differances with US gear, is it simply a matter of a 2 to 3 pin adapter , or will i need something more complex?

    thanks
    Gar

Well it doesn't give a voltage spec. But it should say at the back of the pedal beside the input for the adaptor whether it is 110 or 220V.
Some plugs come with a transformer so this wouldn't matter, for example, if the plug said 110-220v range it would work.
If it happens that it will only accept a 110v plug, you will have to buy a step up transformer from a hardware store like peats or radionics, but I don't think this will be the case. Just make sure you check the labels on the device.

if you click on additional images theres a pic of the back of it. anyhting there?

It looks like it's gonna come with a transformer which should work with 220V because all the device needs is 9V AC.

Even if there is a transformer built-in, check the fuse at the back (if you can).

It could be set-up for US voltages and a higher voltage (--> more current) might nuke it.

    [looks at images closly]

Hmm. The power socket at the back looks like it comes with a plug-in transformer, like Giblet said. You might need a step-up for that.

What does it say beneath the socket? POWER SYNC 1.3A, I think. Can't be sure.

And don't pay much heed to that CE badge on the back - fuse's aren't always configured to suit Europe. This I know.

You can buy a plug that will output 1.3A AC which should work, but I'd send of an email just to be sure.

I tried order a boss chromatic tuner from music 123 a few months ago, they said they wouldn't ship it to europe because of diferences in power or something along those lines.

It might be worth checking out if they will even send it to you?

I bought an american digitech whammy pedal off ebay a few weeks back, and just ordered a european power supply for it, and it works fine. all you have to do when ordering is to make sure:

    A. the current (either ac or dc) is correct (digitech are usually AC)
    B. The output voltage is correct (in your case 9v i think?)
    C. the ampage is correct (in ur case i think 1.3mA???)

    anyway that should help....

Where did you get the european PS? so gimme a bottom line here lads, from looking at the specs and stuff. (and i wont hold you accoutable if anything goes wrong) what do i need , will a simple travel adapter do the job here if i buy it? or do i need to spend more cash on adapters/power supplies and stuff like that

If you went in Dixons and bought a 1.3A AC plug with a multiple voltage switch for 9v etc, and the right polarity, no reason why it shouldn't work.

cool, i have a few of those thing already for powering pedals and stuff.

    Hi Bombidol,

could you let us know if you get charged any taxes when you get that pedal? I've bought from music123 twice so far, got caught on the second time, seemed to be about 14% (still far cheaper than any Irish shop). Would be interested to know how you fair.

(Thomann is the other onlineshop I've used, trying to work out which is cheaper taking into account the possibility of taxes etc etc).

    Thanks!

    Rob

Got a phonecall, i got lagged for the taxes, its about 40 squid. still cheaper than town though

Thanks for letting us know. You are beating thomann aswell as the whole of Ireland including taxes, plus I've found music123 delivery to be quicker than from Germany!

That said, on somethings thomann are better (AKG, perhaps because it's a German manufacturer). I guess shop around and expect ~17% tax from the states.

i got an old multivoltage adapter thing to power it. so its working fine. i might have an mp3 of how it sounds the weekend if anyones interested

hey bombidol, you a singer then?
i was just wondering what you you are gonna use that unit for? eg: what kind of vocals do you do which require that yoke, maybe i could use one. or was it just an impulse buy?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,638 ✭✭✭bombidol

having problems people! im powered up the thing fine with that multi-adapter thing but when i run the unit through speakers im getting a terrible noise and its not picking up the microphone. The noise seems to be a form of DC hum but its warbled and if i do anything on the board like hit a pedal or move a knob it changes pitch etc. its like a voltage discrepency or something.
It looks fine Eg. i can cycle through the effects but the mic's not being picked up and all i can hear is that mad hum, its loud too.
ill scan in the details on the adapter that can with it during the week. im thinking now that instead of trying to replace that transformer that came with it , now i might try and but an adapter to plug it into so it will work over here, that any use?

-Ferdi. yeah im a singer with a punkmetal band, we use some distortion and stuff on some tracks and id like to use more effects in new tunes to make them stand out more. depends on what type of stuff you play. i see from your sig that you may listen to
New Found BlinkDay 41 so this thing probably wouldnt suit your stuff.

I had a similar problem with a wah pedal, the milli amps on the adaptor I bought were too high and it was causing a really horrible sound to come through the wah pedal, I had to buy a more expensive boss adaptor to get it to work.

    Might be worth checking out.
