1000TX over copper....max cable run?

    anyone know offhand? Using CAT 5 and or CAT 6

    did a quick search to no avail and I have to go to bed now :rolleyes:

    If you use Fast Cat5e (Rated for 350Mhz) the max cable length is 100m.
    Real-world usage would be quite a bit lower then that.

    some recent motherboards @ €100 or less come with 1000Base TX built in.


    ye olde crossover cable will do 100 Metres with no switch/hub involved

    one must do all the pins right.

    I've a couple of Intel gigabit fibre hba's, but I havent used them in 8 months, they are wicked fast though, I'll use them again when I make another puter ... turning an ordinary lc fibre cable into a crossover lc cable took about 10 seconds ...:D, only problem is when you want more than two computers connected ... thats when things get expensive
