Was it a Bird ? Was it a Plane ? Was it a B

I was in the Garden yesterday at about 6:30pm when 2 jets flew over (one after another - about 1 min interval - same flight path). I'm wondering were they American B-1 Lancer bombers as (if you look at the attached pic) the smoke trail seemed to come from the back of the jet and they seemed to be a good bit louder than conventional passanger jets.

My question is were they ? Would they be flying over the Galway area ? Did anyone else see/hear them ? Has anyone heard any other US jets on their way to Baghdad ?

It's very possible that it was a US military plane. It's well known that they are refulling down in Shannon to head off to the gulf.

Why do you suspect it was a b-1, was it so low that you could clearly make it out?

I suspect it was a B1 lancer because of the distinctive shape. It wasn't low but the smoke trail seemed to be coming from the rear of the aircraft - like the B1.

Would Galway be on the flight path from the Us to Shannon though ?

Maybe it’s not on the route, they could possible have been flying to a British air base but that wouldn't explain the low altitude.

I wonder if anyone knows what the story with them is, would be interesting to find out.

Perhaps they were admiring the Irish countryside.

If you go to cnn.com they have an interactive thing showing all the planes/copters used by the US Mil

I live in an area of Dublin and many neighbours have mentioned a huge increase in noise from aircraft and speed of the aircraft in the sky also an increase of traffic in the sky. I noticed myself an odd shape plane going incredibly fast in my estimation. (knowing altitude/speed factor) , I'm not near baldonnel.

I live near Dublin City centre. Definite increase in air traffic overhead in the last two weeks.
