    I found this "interesting"....

"ComReg: Internet penetration rate increase in Ireland
Mar 13 2003: Internet usage in Ireland rose four percent from September to December 2002, according to new figures from Comreg.

The Internet penetration rate in the country now stands at 40 percent, up from 36 percent in September 2002.

The new data reveal s that four out of every ten Internet users in Ireland bought online during the last three months of 2002.

Take-up of ISDN continues to increase, up 30 percent last year. Whereas DSL rose 74 percent from September to December 2002, this growth was from a very small base. Overall take-up still remains low.

Ireland’s mobile penetration rate increased two percent from September to December 2002 to 79 percent.

According to the latest figures, 72 text messages were sent per month per subscriber from September to December 2002."

Perhaps we could attribute the growth to the introduction of partial flat rate products from UTV and EsatBT. Or was it just a seasonal thing!?

4% increase! would love to see the quality of the base data. 4% may be not a lot more than the margin of error

can anybody find a reference to this on the comreg site?

this is lifted from the Quarterly survey issued a week or two back
    See Here .

I really dont like them using that 'p' word, would the phrase Internet Occasional Connection Rate not be nicer in the Irish context ?

ComReg: Internet penetration rate increase in Ireland
Why does this sound like more customers being shafted ??

I reckon the increase in numbers is a tad slower than most other countries BB roll outs ... - also I'd reckon some of the replies were aspirational or just not to feel left out rather than actual.

Does the penetration rate take account of those that access from work as well as from home or is it combination of both?
Alot of people would access it from work(always on) rather than home(99% dial-up). Some of these surveys tend to never mention the home penetration use of the internet !!
