so im pretty good at irish, well i could be better if i studied, but thats not the point. the point is, i REALLY enjoy irish, i love the language and its one of the few subjects i can see myself doing further study in, and actually DOING it( im the kinda person that just CANT study something they dont enjoy)
so i've applied to do irish in both ucd and trinity, but i was just wondering, what exactly can i do with that...?
should this be on the leaving cert board or something? i dont know...

Is breá leat an Ghaeilge, so freagróidh mé do cheist as Ghaeilge.

Tá mise ag staidéar i DCU tríd an Ghaeilge- cúrsa darb ainm FIONTAR (BSc in Airgeadas, Ríomhaireacht agus Fiontraíocht). Ach ní cúrsa Ghaeilge atá ann.

Tá sé athraithe don bhlian seo chugainn... tá sé BSc i bhFiontraíocht le Gaeilge Feidhmiúil (applied Irish).

Le na cúrsaí i TCD agus UCD caithfidh tú an sean-Ghaeilge a fhoghlaim agus na sean scripteanna ó am na manaigh (monks).

Sa cúrsa nua i DCU, foghlaimíonn tú an ghnáth Ghaeilge a labhraíotar san lá atá inniú ann.

Ceapaim leis an cúrsa i DCU gur féidir leat dul ag múnadh mar múinteoir Ghaeilge... ach níl mé cinnte.
Le TCD agus UCD níl clue agam. Is féidir let bheith mar múinteoir mean-scoile.... ach caithfidh tú an sean-Ghaeilge a fhoghlaim, agus dúirt ár sean-múinteoir Ghaeilge linn go raibh sé an-deachar ar fad.

If you want to e-mail me about it, send me a private message and I'll get back to ya.
The course in DCU you can probably do what you could with the courses in TCD and UCD without doing all the old Irish- and you'd have a degree in Enterprise to fall back on too!! You can't lose really!

    Hiya Seraphina!

Tá sé seo saghas déanach ach ...
má thaitníonn an Ghaeilge leat chomh mór sin, ba chóir duit céim (degree) a dhéanamh inti ! Is dóigh liom nach fiú staidéar a dhéanamh ar ábhar muna dtaitníonn sé leat. Má cheapann tú ná fuil do chuid Gaeilge ró-mhaith, tiocfaidh feabhas uirthi má tá suim agat inti agus má dhéanann tú í a labhairt go minic.

Pé scéal é, tá cuid mhaith deiseanna ann do dhaoine le céim mhaith sna hEalaíne (Arts) - d'fhéadfá a bheith id' mhúinteoir, id' léachtóir, id' aistritheoir, dul isteach sa stát seirbhís (Civil Service), a bheith ag obair sna meáin chumarsáide (ar TG4 b'fhéidir !) ..... nó, tar éis na céime, d'fhéadfá dioplóma a fháil sa ghnó, sa ríomheolaíocht(IT) etc etc etc

Dhein mé féin beagán staidéir ar an Sean-Ghaeilge - an-shuimiúil agus níl sí chomh deacair sin - ná bíodh eagla ort!

nil si chomh deacair sin, bULL ****.

Seraphina my eldest brother went to trinity and done that course, he said that the old irish was abitch and he like me grew up in connemara.were irish was our first lanuage. He did pass it tho.But if thats what you really want you sud truly go for it, just be prepared to put the work in for the sean gaelige.
Its stupid that you have to learn it in the first place, not even we use any of it anymore.

just for fun tho,try and find out what feiltrach means? its sean gaelige, spelling maybe a little off. Its one word the english difenitly dont have.

Tá an tSean-Ghaeilge chomh difriúil sin ón Nua-Ghaeilge go mbíonn ort iarracht a dhéanamh chun í a fhoghlaim fiú amháin más cainteoir dúchais Gaeilge thú ...
ach ní bhíonn ann ach modúl amháin sa bhliain di, de ghnáth.

Bheadh an ollscoil an-leadránach muna bhfoghlaimeofá ach rudaí praicticiúla ann. Thaitin an tSean-Ghaeilge liom féin mar feiceann tú cad as a tháinig an-chuid do na focail a úsáidimid sa lá atá inniu ann agus cén fáth go bhfuil an méid sin litreacha nach bhfuaimnítear iad i bhfocail Gaeilge!
