I've only been in the Front Lounge(which I love) and was wondering what the other places are like i.e. the George,GUBU,Out on the Liffey etc.

The Front Lounge Rocks and I liked Gubu a lot because of its music. Refreshing change to the camp music in the Cork gay spots.

Not been to the other Dublin establishments yet.

    Heya, (another Dub here too)

well, the Front Lounge always gets the thumbs up from me.

I'm not so fond of the George anymore, though. After two to three years, it really began to annoy me. Y'know, same old same old, and all that. I'm surprised I lasted as long as I did! Sure, going there as a newbie, it was a great laugh, and everyone's so friendly; but after a while ye just look forward to a change..

Gubu's cool, although sadly I haven't been there in a while. Be warned, though, the pool table area downstairs can sometimes feel a little.. well.. uncomfortable or intimidating. I keep meself upstairs! Maybe that's changed now though. Oooooh, havta go for a tipple there soon, havta, havta, havta..!

There's also Hogans which is fairly-well gay friendly; quite a mixed crowd go there. Tis always a nice treat to head there of an evening.

Check out GCN, and other magazines and websites for other info, including clubs, etc.

But, don't forget, there are plenty of "straight" bars around town where a gang of us gays pile into, have a laugh, maybe get a couple of funny looks, but even that's rare. I don't feel I should always have to be restricted to just the scene-y bars; I'd also recommend Sosume, the Globe, the Mercantile, the Trinity Arch, the Morrison, Pravda, Traffic (new one on Middle Abbey Street). Fair enough, if you're looking to meet someone, your chances might well be lessened, but most of these bars are fairly mixed, too, and alternatively if you're just going for a few drinks and a laugh, it's nice to go for a change.

    Wherever ye end up, enjoy!

    :p

in FREE! magazine it covers all the gay pubs/clubs on a map. It doesnt review them but its a step in the right direction.

www.gay-ireland.com has really gone downhill and many of their reviews have not been updated since 2001! They are also missing allot of the new gay nights and havent realised that some of the places they list doesn't even exist anymore. Are there any other good review sites?

I finally went to GUBU and it was great!the jukebox has some great tunes on it,they played some Soulwax and Nina Simone while I was there,as nice change from normal pub music, like Oasis or Robbie Williams.I heartily recommend it!

that would never happen in cork, any gay bar or gay friendly bar down here, when you walk in you know exactly what it is.
