CD burner 'not compatible with cd-rw'

mk Ive tried a couple of times with different software to erase and write cd-rw's , but Im being told that my burner isnt compatible with them. Is this just coz Ive a crappy burner or can i download something to fix it? tnx in advance.

More info needed- whats your burner and what software have you tried?

its a : Philips PCRW804.

Ive tried adaptec easy cd creator, clone cd, write cd and record now max.
