there is project64. while it was officially discontinued after 1.4 there is an official unofficial version 1.5.

1964 is another one that is updated regularly it is also quite high in the compatability stakes.

n64 emulation is quite stagnent at the moment and most importantly the main plugins are very rarley updated. plus the fact that they are all very buggy doent help much.

Never really struck me as a big in the emulation scene. I remember having one and there being a huge lack of good games to play on it. Having all the roms won't really help, you'll just have all the games that were never worth playing :)

Dunno, its just not a fun system bar the big games, which are pretty few.

Ah but everyone should be given the chance to play Zelda OOT on the N64 at least once. This game alone makes N64 emulation worth while. I can't seeing the N64 scene dying it's just going through a quiet patch.

yeah OOT is one of those games that anyone who plays games must at one point in their life play and finish. seminal it is.

there was a flurry of activity when 1964 made a leap from a slow buggy uncompatible emulator to one that rivaled project64 in the space of one release. but thing have slowed down again.

I have an N64 which i still play ,have Ocarina and 79 other games but towards the end of its life i refused to pay £70 for Conker /Banjo Tooie /Majoras mask/ ISS2000 so i have never played those.

does nobody remember goldeneye? surely the best fps on a console, at least until the latest generation that is.... perfect dark is the follow up, though to lesser effect i reckon. if you've never played conker your in for a treat. these roms work perfectly well with project64 provided your processor is fast enough. the default plugins on 1.5 work fine for them.

Yah goldeneye is class ,loved PD until that little git Elvis came into it ,was a great game the 1st level probably the best level on any FPS ever.

Yup Goldeneye was a fairly cool game alright. Had a number of trips into smiths to play it!! I also liked that other game, whats it called...emm..oh ya..Star Fox! I thought that was a a fairly good game too! The versus mode was cooo too!!

I used play Mario and OOT on Ultra HLE and thought it was stunning. I only have a P2 350mhz and a TNT2 3d card and it ran like a dream. The graphics looked far more attractive on an emulator. N64 games were so damn blurry on the original hardware.

It's just a shame todays emulators for the N64 want a 1Ghz processor to get anywhere:(

nemu0.8 is good emulator if you like playing online

i've only played mario kart 64, because i think its the best multi player game the n64 had

i've had a good few games of battle mode, and its still as fun as ever

    yeah www.nemu.com is class

Altho project 64 is a better emu, nemu supports online play via kaillera

Use 1964 tbh works fine online and over a local network.

do these emus work good online on a 56 k

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,987 ✭✭✭✭zAbbo

In terms of of playabilty online or LAN, my fav`s are:

    Mario Kart 64
    Snowboard Kids 2
    ISS2000

using nemu 0.8 with updated kaillera 0.9 client.

Afaik nemu is still being updated.

You can`t switch input or audio plugins in nemu(but they both work really well)

The gfx driver default supports high cpu with low gfx card, but you can switch plugins to jabo or something

I found Nemu a pretty dodgy emulator since the games look a lot worse on it than on the N64. PJ64 is the best in my opinion and runs most of the games close to perfect.

It's a shame that the only games that are emulated close to perfection are mario kart 64 and mario 64 and even these have a few flaws.

I found nemu to far superior to the real console

using: jaba direct3d6 as the video dll

    Using 8x AA
    64mb gf4 ti4200
    512 DDR
    athlon xp 1800
    Res 1600*1200

Sorry kdjac i`m working tonight, Saturday

And ISS2000 is far superior to ISS64

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,346 ✭✭✭✭KdjaCL

And ISS98 is far superior to every footie game ever.

imo its the best football game ever made eclipsing Sensible.

    whoops i was comparing iss2000 and iss64

I`m surpised at the quality of the Iss2000 to the psx one, very good, all i need now is a good controller.

I`ll prolly get one of those hybrid psx and n64 into usb jobs
