Star Trek: The undiscovered Country

Watched it last knight on premier (SKY). And although the whole movie (whole line of movies for that matter) is absolute dross, I couldn't help being spellbound byt one scene. It is just after the young Vulcan woman has been exposed as a colaborator, and Spock is doing the Vulcan Mind meld on her. The scene is just brilliant. The heartbeat soundtrack, the way the camera swirls around the two solitary figures, the way that the names are spoken by both Vulcans at the same moment, and then when Spock gets both hands on her and she utters a little scream due to his awsome Vulcan mistic powers. SPELLBINDING!

either that or that was the effect of overdosing on "Lemsip max strenght"!

I'd say it was the latter.

quit poopooing the star trek movies - they dont have to be good, they are star trek.

except the series Enterprise, thats total muck, except for the vulcan chick, as some of you probably noticed - she has big diddies:D

I'd say The Undiscovered Country is probably the best Star Trek film.

I think Star Trek 2 and 6 are the only times that the franchise has ever stretched itself beyond formula.

I watched those two before I became a trekkie (is liking TNG only enough to make you a trekkie?) and they were good as stand-alone films in their own right.

I'd say you could pull that one off...
I grew up on Next Gen, and cant say I've really watched the original series.

But film-wise, the original crew beats the Next Gen crew hands down.

Yeah 2 and 6 were definatly the best with the original crew. People are always going on about how great 4 was but I never thought much of it.

I'd say what made the Wrath of Khan and The Undiscovered Country great films was that they were both directed by Nicholas Meyer; who wasn't afraid to put the odd bit of darkness and violence into ST, in order to have a great story.

The Wrath of Khan certainly broke the mould as far as ST goes. I certainly think it is one of the best sci fi movies ever, Ricardo Montalban has all the best lines :)

    khan: FULL POWER!!!.....DAMN YOU!!!

Thats not actually what I meant... What I meant was thats all I have to say about it, but when you put it that way... well then, yeah, thats fine.

Although how's about you add your opinion instead of criticising the way I make mine?

Anyone else wondering why Paramount haven't called back their best ST director to do a TNG film?
