How do I know if I am using a vesa 2.0 driver? Or how do I install /enable one. Is it a video card specific thing?

vesa was an old standard for graphics cards back in the days of dos. win9x has limited support for vesa2.0 in dos boxes. win nt and above have even less support. if you're really desperate and your on win9x try and dig up an old copy of scitech display doctor. it may help.

one question though. why in the name of jesus do you need a vesa driver in this day and age?

Haha, well, Im using KGen to play road rash. But it paints the roads a manky cyan colour, and it says in the readme that vesa 2.0 does the job when the "Palette Raster
    FX kick in."

KGen is a dos based genesis emulator. If you know a work around for this I would be delighted to hear. I've tried DGen but it does a terrible job as does gencyst.

I've download gens but it doesnt seem to like .smd roms :(

no no no no you dont need kgen

    http://gens.consolemul.com/ - Gens

the ultimate mega drive emulator. it does the 32x, the mega cd and the original mega drive. nice and windows based and much better compatability that kgen

if you want to keep kgens spirit alive then try

    http://www.eidolons-inn.de/kega/ - Kega

written by the same guy as kgen. it to is windows based and will also emulate the mega cd and master system/game gear. its a bit faster than gens to. compatability is way beyond kgen to.

yes, they were halcyon days but lets let dos go. :)

    [edit]
just noticed your bit saying gens does not like .smd files. well all my md roms are in .smd and they run fine. im guessing you have a bad dump. try and find another copy of it somewhere else.

ooooh you don't know what you've started logie :) Personally, I first played it on my mates 3D0. The soundtrack included bands Soundgarden, Therapy, Swervedriver, Hammerbox - to name a few.

Today (7 years later) these are my favourite bands, I bought a motorbike, and have found as much joy in the genesis version of road rash.

Sad but true :) I migh post a picture of the bike if I can find a jpeg.

It has no sound for the bikes, they coulda just stuck in a whiney noise or something, its all very silent....too silent. Great game tho, jailbreak on the psx was a bit of fun, can't go wrong with bikes and large blunt objects :)
