    .... is moving on again.

Nildram (who operate largely in the area west and north of London/M25) have decided that first generation DSL offerings are not what the customer really needs anymore.

So they launch a 1Mb and a 2Mb product for their power users.

About €60 to turn it on and then

    About €95 a month including UK Vat at 17.5% for the 2Mb. 2048/256 .

There is a Cap of course, 150 Gb a month. I could probably live with that. Contention is 50:1

Funny that it runs over normal BT copper......is that becuase Nildram have better DSLAM kit than our lot here. See Here for details.

Yea by the time we have 512 the uk will have 5/10 m/bit. We are going to be playing catch up for a very......very long time :(

Off topic...but does anyone know why the UK and Irish DSL lines never have higher than 256K/bit upload? I've seen advertisments in the states for 700K+ uploads...

Senator Mary O'Rourke, that wise woman we all remember so fondly has told us otherwise.

Remember this excerpt from her famous speech on the 08 03 2002 (1st anniversary on Saturday so we must celebrate)

    Mary said:
"In the medium term we expect that broadband speeds of five megabits to the home and substantially higher for business users will be minimum standard. Our aim is for Ireland to be the first country in Europe to have this level of broadband service widely available"
Mary thought that the medium term was 3 years.

Quote ttaken from this speech Here ....given less than a year back but so far away on the time space continuum planar dimension ...man.

I'm sure she believed what she was saying at the time.

Paddy last ™ applies here :(
