    Hi!,

I have a linux box Suse8.0 with a fair few telnet console users i have ntalk setup to conference everyone but what i would like is some sort of message bulliten system with thread messages, i have tried/failed/considered to setup a usenet server and have the users connect to that locally with 'tin'r something. What i need is some local way of getting my users to be able to read and respond to threaded messages in a boards type of way. Any solutions apart from writing it myself.

How about setting up a mini-website on your box and running a Bulletin Board? Sounds like what you want, and most of the tools, bar the bulletin board itself, should be already installed. Have a search through the Webmaster board for advice on bulletin boards.

its not a website, what i have is multi users on shell accounts on my Suse linux box gettin work done but they also like to chat thats where ntalk does its work but what i need now is a program that will run in unix command line, console:that will let people read and reply to threaded messages like a unix usenet client but that works totally locally. Any ideas for a solution???

Using the news server method with a new client like slrn or tin as you say is the best idea. Read up on some documentation, it ain't too hard to get a local news server running.
