does anyone in the know have any idea when this will be released here?

Orange have it in the UK - most other networks on Friday the 7th

    Experience I think,
We're usually at least a few weeks behind the UK for phone releases, then they're usually about twice the price, at least. (on contract)

The P800 won't be out in Ireland for a few months at least, Vodafone aren't anywhere near approving it just yet.

Vodafone UK will have approved it by the 17th of this month - don't suppose that will hold much sway here?

Not likely ;) To be honest, there doesn't seem to be much interest in it. It's also been deemed that there's no commercial interest in the N7250 or the N6100, so they won't be going on sale anytime soon either. That's the way things will be unless 02 begin selling them & then, maybe, Vodafone will change their stance.

Anyone know if ANYONE is going to approve this?
I'm not shelling out €800 for an uninsured phone (again),
i want this on a contract, insured, in Ireland, NOW.

(having one of my whiny moments...)

There is MASSIVE interest in it!

www.esato.com have an entire board dedicated to it and it's the most active one there!

as igy said - i want it and i want it now!

(i make no excuses for the giant text or overuse of exclaimation marks - this phone actually is god - well, nearly my sources indicated that god is 3G - the P800 is not :(

Anyone know if I could get one of these insured here if I bought it SIM free from the UK?
    I'm getting impatient :)

Do none of the insurance companies deal directly with consumers, no?
I also saw a leaflet in work for O2 Speakeasy insurance, which seemed to imply you could insure a phone any time after buying it, once you had proof of purchase, the only problem was that you weren't covered for 60 days after signing up.?

info in this insurance lark interests me greatly 'cos i've just ordered a P800

will O2 or voda insure it?

I dunno, nobody seems to know,
What I was talking about was a leaflet I saw in an O2 shop, (i think its available in PDF format from the website- minus the application form part).

It seemed to imply (strongly) that it wasnt a case of only being able to insure an O2 locked phone at the time of purchase, but that you could insure any phone by sending them a copy of the receipt (presumably with the IMEI).
Payment was by Direct Debit AFAIR.

The catch was that you weren't covered for the first 60 days.

calling voda customer care, can get you details and an application form sent out on their Vodafone Stay Mobile Insurance and a form (got the info yesterday) - details also on their site here:
    http://www.vodafone.ie/services/mobileservices/insurance/staymobile/index.jsp
with terms and conditions here [pdf] (scroll to page 2):
    http://www.vodafone.ie/services/mobileservices/insurance/staymobile/tandc/tandcV2.pdf

they brochure lists a claims number (01) 604 8168 - who may be able to offer further details

calling O2 customer care, they can get you details and an application form sent out on their O2 phone cover (asked for it to be sent out yesterday) - details also on their site here [pdf]:
    http://www.dol.ie/pdf/docs/17391.pdf

their (online) brochure says firther details are available from 1850 797 000

alternatively calling homecare insurance on 1800 409 472 for details on their phone cover

as Igy says both list a 'first 60 days exclusion' in the small print
