The fact that no-one mentions a problem with the text on TV5 makes me think that perhaps I'm hallucinating. It seems to be Cyrillic - anyone got any ideas?

Maybe not many peeple actually watch TV5 (such as me) let alone try to access the TV5 text services!

I watch TV5 a bit. Anytime I have access the teletext it appear to be fine. They have teletext sub-titles (sous-titres) on some programmes, which makes it easier to follow what is happening.

Original Teletext only had about 96 characters (US ASCII) and a number (32 or 64?) "Graphics" characters to draw boxes, simple pictures etc.

Later they added extra "language" characters to the spec.

    The problem is:
    1) An older Teletext decoder will not display the correct character for an Accented Character.
    2) A newer Teletext decoder on TV not really made for UK or Irl market will display an "accented character" as a special language character, but may use Greek, Cryrillic, Hebrew or Arabic rather than "Accented" Roman!

Alternatively (on my Mitsubishi) there is a language menu. If set to english, Teletext "language" characters are always shown as accented Roman. If I set it to Cryrillic, Arabic, Greek etc, then all OSD menus change language and some teletext pages are then using alternate alphabets.
