Argos are pretty cheap. Though you get what you pay for!

There are some professional apartment fitters out there that will get fairly good stuff at wholesale rates (probably 50% of retail). I think I have details of one at home. Developers and big landlords would certainly use them. I think they were indicating about €6,000 (1-bed) to €8,000 (2-bed) for a nice standard. The thing with bargain places is you will get what you paid for. However, this might be a good idea, if you plan on letting for short periods and expect to chuck some of the furniture in 2 years anyway,.

Oh yes make sure the base of the bed has a solid enough top (enough to take two adults, ehh exercising ;)). Some bases have inbuilt storage, go for on of these or one with legs.

Carpetwise, the really cheap stuff tends to rip under furniture legs. Avoid cheap nylon like the plague. Tretford is much better, but gradually looses the hair and doesn't feel great under bare feet. Try to go for something with a medium pile if you can afford it, with a pattern and a mid-dark colour (hides stains / marks / tears). Get a professional fitter, to avoid 'stretch' and make sure any joints are done properly.

I'd say buyandsell (or similar) would be a better bet. Goood furniture is very expensive, but lasts, cheap furniture falls apart.

I'd say you're better off spending v. little to begin with, and getting good stuff as you go.

The other thing is that once friends and family realise you need stuff, you'll have a fair amount of offer of free stuff to get you going.

BTW best of luck wit the new place.

If you're getting a phone table/bed box/drawers, avoid the ones available in Supervalu/Tesco/wherever. Yeah, so you only need 1,000,000,000 tokens, but they're not even worth the €49.99/€99.99 that you then pay.

    It's "cost effective" :p

Rarely had a complaint with furniture when I was there. And when we did it was from those people who just shouldn't be anywhere near a screwdriver.

And yes, flat-packed means it comes in a box. Flat. Cheeses, the amount of people who used to go "Oh my gawd, is that it?, It doesn't look anything like the picture."

    It is what it's.

I'd try and avoid carpets at all costs. I bought an apartment a couple of years ago. The carpets in it were shíte - I threw them out and put in laminate flooring. Not a bother since. It really looks the biz.
