People here have recently been concerned about the lack of clear editiorial separation between Independent Newspapers and eircom, which I agree with. I suspect this piece proves a point. Time for an investigation by the The Competition Authority methinks.

    I thought I was on a redesigned
    www.unison.ie page!

I went back to the news front page and it was second on the list...

Plainly a blatent "puff" for the indo
group and worth a prompting e-mail.

    Mike.

Just submitted mine! I cite publishing a"puff" as a top news story being
    anti-competitive in intent.

Of course it's not "Independent" Newspapers. It's an example of what can happen if capitalism goes wrong. His Lordship (is he a Knight or a Baron?) gives his media outlets no integrity of separation.

I don't believe IN&M has any journalistic integrity, either. Need I mention "Better Value Beats Bad PR Out Of The Indo Every Day"? That is, a very interesting story in the Phoenix recently about an "alleged" pull of a Sindo story negative to Margaret Heffernan, I think. Thankfully, one of the O'Reilly clan reminded the NUJ chapel that Dunnes spends a *lot* on advertising in the papers, and the errant journalists saw sense.

This spin is a very poor move for those who believe in real independent news and media, but likely won't harm the soaraway Indo - or the beloved Baron.

Incidentally, what don't they mention? The fact that, according to

    http://www.unison.ie/classifieds/printmediakit/index.php3?section=classifieds_indo_circulation

sales for the previous six-month period were 170,154. This translates to a net loss in sales of 621 per day. A "strengthened" position? Indeed.

    www.salon.com

Independent, needs money to stay open.

    Also, a quality magazine.

I dislike TOR and his lickspittles as next as the next man, but that article is from an INM newsfeed and was just as likely to say the same about the Irish Times (they have a feed from ireland.com too).
