PS2 Tournament

Ciaran came up with a really good idea which was to organise a PS2 Tournament. It would be on games like Tecken 2 and so on.

I think the point was to try to raise money for Compsoc so there might be money involved. Maybe a fiver or a few euro and the winer takes half or something like that.

    Questions:

If it was done would anyone be interested and would u turn up?

    What games should be run?

    In what format?

When should it be run? (Mon, tue, wed, etc... 1pm, 5pm, 6pm, etc...)

    What games?

    What sugestions do u have?

Well, I think having it at a time like 1pm is silly, as lots of people will have lectures to be at. We're not all slack fúcks :p

What does Compsoc need money for?
    It's funded by the college.
People seem to be donating the games needed.

Wot the hell have u been smokin? The college don't give us diddly! And they (for some odd reason) have something against us playin Quake3 @ 2pm! As for the "donating" part, most games have to have their exe's changed, so that they don't look at the C drive (which we have no access) for a registry key.

Compsoc does not start until 5pm, mabye thats why they have a thing against playing at 2pm.
They just have compsoc a PS2 and funding won't change the fact that you don't have reg access.

Afaik, the students union gave the PS2, not the college. I don't see what compsoc needs funding for though.

I have to agree with Stephen.......why do compsoc need funding??

compsoc needs no money unless we were thinking of buying stuff. we never think of buying games so hardware is all we could buy. and even at that we are not gonna be able to buy a whole lot. maybe headsets for all pcs in that room or a cd-writer for one or two machines. after that i cant see a whole lot we could do with money...

    hmm, above the tresurer????

Anyways, we were thinking of getting a box. one that we could run and have internal and external access. Maybe set up some servers and so on. Just a thought... can I have my head back now???

you cant have your head back because you dont need it. especially if 1.you think that the college will give us linux box 2.will give is external access. 3.set up servers?? wtf? no ****ing chance its gonna be firewalled even worse than the standard computers in the lrc.

first it could be put into 303 or 305 which r outside the firewall, second the point would be to buy the box not get it from comp sys and we would set it up and external access would not really be a problem, all we would need to is to come up with a plausable reason why we need external access to our box

303/305 aren't outside the firewall, you have to log on to the proxy though the web browser. It also has more port and protocol restrictions to the outside. we raised a load of money for compsoc in 2000-01 but our treaurer ****ed off with it and all out removable drives. Incidentally, where do you keep the PS2 when it's not in use?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,219 ✭✭✭Redrocket

ps2? dunno where it's held.. i always thought 303 / 305 were behind maybe a different firewall that was less restrictive. i am told you can connect to irc without needing firewall support. i dunno, never checked out the room.
bastard, well i think im the treasurer but i've never seen any money in compsocs so i cant feck off with any funding. removable drives eh?
how did they work? did the techies mind them? how big were they and how many of them?
